I'm a teacher and developmental coach at heart and coming back to Michigan allows me to continue my education and gives me the best platform to continue my developmental work with student-athletes here at Michigan. I can't wait to give back to the University that gave me the tools to do what I am doing today. We have outstanding student-athletes, and I'm ecstatic to be a part of the hockey program again.
After retiring from playing, Shields was a volunteer assistant for Mel Pearson at Michigan Tech from 2011-2013 and served as a consultant for the Florida Panthers in 2013.
A couple more Wolverine hockey alumni will be heading to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and both had a hand in tonight's Montreal win over Ottawa. The Canadiens won the series four games to two behind outstanding Carey Price goaltending, but tonight Pateryn assisted on Brendan Gallagher's first-period goal, the game-winner, and Pacioretty sealed the deal with an empty-netter from deep in his own end with 0.03 to go.
