In what is shaping up as a great off season the Red Wings have reached a 2-year deal with Gustav Nyquist. The deal is for $1.9 mil or $950k cap hit. This signing looks like a steal to me, and I think this kid has a break out season in 2013-14.

I know we are close to the season but thought this wasn't crazy off topic.
Edit: I know it's the Freep but only news outlet with an article so far.
YES THIS IS MY SECOND HOCKEY RELATED POST TODAY. KAZAAM. Plus, it's happier news unlike MSU commitments or Derrick Green injuries
Random North Dakota blog that I subscribe to, undhockey.areavoices.com ( super credible sounding right? Edit: Apparently this is the Grand Forks Herald's UND hockey blog, therefore this is more credible than I initially thought), has apparently confirmed the officials list for the WCHA & NCHC. Of note to us is this:
Kevin Hall (CCHA)
Kevin Langseth (CCHA)
Keith Surgott (CCHA)
Mark Wilkins (CCHA)
Rodney Tocco (CCHA)
Brian Aaron (CCHA)
I'm pretty sure Langseth and Surgott were two of my least favorite officials in the CCHA so I'm glad the WCHA offered to take them. (Brian devoted a significant part of this post to his hatred for Kevin Langseth). Not sure if there are any Shegos' floating out there.
I think this is good news for the BTHC. Not sure though...
(If you search for "CCHA referees", the #1 hit is mgoblog and the tag "CCHA refs eat their own poo for money")
The roster for the U17 National Team Development Program (aka USNTDP-17) was announced today and two future Michigan commits made the roster:
- Brendan Warren (F) - 2015 - Carelton, MI
- Nicholas/Nick Boka (D) - 2015 - Plymouth, MI
(The State of) Michigan was also tied with New York for the state with the most players on the team with four
Western will not confirm, but everything points to them replacing Lawson with a new fancy-pants arena to go along with their quasi-step up into the NCHC. Per the article, Western supposedly already has about $50 million pledged of the $60 million needed to build the arena but needs to close that gap probably before anyone says anything officially
This is going along with the $100 million donation Western has gotten to build a new med school. Looks like it's a good time to be in Kalamazoo. I'm hoping we'll see Western suceed in the NCHC but it's going to be tough sledding
Title say it all, Red Wings plan on retiring Nick Lidstrom's #5 jersey. Retirement will take place March 6th prior to Colorado game.
Red Wings also stated this would have occured last season if not for the shortened season.
