Which tradition do you think Jim and his family celebrated over the last couple of weeks?
The Harboughs were raised Catholic, but I have a hard time imagining Jim wishing some one a Merry Christmas or good tidings. My money is on Festivus. I have to imagine that he would love the Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength. Those sound like the igredients of a typical 49ers practice or film session. Lastly, there are things known as Festivus miracles. I'd say that what he has done with SDSU, Stanford and the 49ers are all Festivus miracles. Before this year, his schedule in December at the 49ers is 11-3.
Coincidence? I think not.
Festivus for the rest of us? Thoughts?
The Twitter account previously found at @ThoseWhoStay7 has made its return to Twitter, although it no longer resembles its former self. It is now known as @MaizeAndBlue14, and the name that is listed is "Teddy Blanks". All previous tweets have been deleted.
I know it is the same account because it has me already following him on my personal account without having done anything, having picked up where I left off with ThoseWhoStay7. I would assume many of you will find that you are already following him as well.
I'm not sure if this is a good sign, a bad sign, or no sign at all (probably no sign at all). Thankfully, we are at the point now where we are no longer relying on his oddly extremely connected reports for info, as nearly all actual reporters are now on the Harbaugh-to-Michigan bandwagon.
Hopefully just a few more days of this nonsense.
Was doing some thinking during this slow news time frame about how the coaching search would have went if UM had made a meaningless bowl by beating Maryland. I think in the end this would have been a disaster IF Hoke had not been fired immediately after the regular season. Shades of the end of RR regime stalk my head in this regard. We keep a lame duck coach around to save some buyout money and that extra month that could have been devoted to landing JH instead was spent on Josh Groban and preparing to get slaughted by cow bells.
Obviously we have a very large singular target A and from all indications, the Harbaughs and Hoke are quite close (esp John). Hackett said he would not make a decision on Hoke until "after the season". He might have been very tactical in his choice of words - or he may have really meant it and his end of season was the bowl. If literal there seems no way Harbaugh would even sniff negotiations with UM until after Hoke was released which probably would have happened after a bowl in the next few days. At which point the 49ers season would be ending and we'd be in a free for all with NFL teams starting from ground zero. Again this is from reading between the lines and from guys like Henson who say Harbaugh would not speak to UM in any manner about coaching (even back channel, agents, etc) as long as Hoke was employed.
Instead we've had (insert # of weeks based on what reports you believe) all to ourselves with the coaching position open and hence no roadblock.
My other thought is in a parallel universe if we made a bowl, and Hackett wanting the big fish he might have used the vague language of "after the season" as an excuse to fire Hoke after OSU. If that is what it took to go after Jim, I think that would be the logical thing to do but as we've seen the last 7 years a lot of illogical things have happened. In that scenario you just promote Nuss to interim for a month and then everything else works out as it otherwise is doing.
Obviously none of us are privy to Hackett's thoughts but what is your opinion on what would have unfolded if we had made a bowl?
I recently read a post and more often have been listening to the NFL talking bobble heads saying how Harbaugh would not accept the Michigan Job because it would be a step down in his coaching career to go back to college.
I just don't understand how this is in anyway a step down in coaching.
1. A pay raise in the millions is usually considered a step up in any career.
2. The opportunity to Coach his Alam Mater & Develop some great players.
3. The Great opportunity to develop young men into great men.
4. Not dealing with billionaires that even though you have taken them to several playoffs and the Super Bowl still want to trade or fire you as their coach? I really question this one, but am extremley happy about it because it opens the possibility of U of M fans getting the coach they have wanted for years.
I could come up with more but most confusing is has the NFL forgotten what came first College or Pro? Well we all know the answer to this is College Football came first. It is likely that Harbaugh coaching at Michigan would develop young men into great men that would eventually be drafted into the NFL. If it wasn't for the great coaching of a College Football Coaches developing the players into great players there would not be Pro Football.
They use the issue of dealing with young recruits & discipline as an issue. There are more colleges with a greater # of players on each team, but it seems to me that the NFL with less teams and fewer players on each team have some serious discipline issues of their own.
Can anyone explain to me why taking a Head Coaching Job at your Alma Mater is a step down?
This is NOT A COPY AND PASTE, just a point of view as to why NFL seems contantly say this is a step down. Just my own personal view and on WHY HARBAUGH TO MICHIGAN which I am contantly looking for a news update that it is a done deal.
[Ed: Because you are all starved for searchbits, we've asked some famous Mgobloggers to create a few during the holiday season. Hope you enjoy!*]
IT'S HAPPENING. Hearing more chatter that it's definitely happening. Where am I hearing this chatter? Well, myself. I wake up each day and say "it's happening, it's happening" and then repeat this Chakra roughly 100-300 times. Can be a bit awkward during family meals, prayers, etc., but oh well. Recommended for those of you with separation anxiety, heart palpatations, or other Harbaugh-related diseases. FIGHT FOR THE CURE:
The Cure for Harbaugh Disease: Turn off your damn computer
WHAT DOES "A" SAY? Had an interesting chat with alum "A" who is, as they say, "connected". What is he connected to, you ask? This is a question many have raised, but there are few answers. More seriously, A and I used to work together on campus in an "AI" lab; for those of you not in the know, AI stands for "Artificial Intelligence", which is what makes the robots, etc., go. This turned out to be a useful experience for both of us, as it convinced us that AI is a pile of dog crap. Long story short: A thinks Harbaugh is coming. Chances? "95%". Failing that, he feels we may hire a robot for a coach.
Left: Robot. Right: Robot. Middle: Harbaugh (age 12).
One of these will be your next coach.
WHAT ABOUT "S"? S and I go way back. He lives out in the Bay Area now and thus is my most connected source for 49ers info. Here are some updates that he sent me this year: "49ers suck bro", "Kap can't throw", and "sup dude?". Most are pretty informative. When I asked about Harbaugh, he said "Harbs is the MAN" and I am afraid to inform you that he may have even used more capitalization than that. What does he think of Harbaugh to UM? "dont know man that sounds crazy" so I am putting this at 55%. A bit of a downer, I agree.
You know she's actually texting about Harbaugh
"J" CHIMES IN. I know you've all been waiting to hear what I've been getting from my best source J, also known as a former girlfriend who lives on the east coast. "Jim's definitely going to be your next coach" she says. "Why?" I ask. "He's so cute!!!! (heart symbol, other more vulgar emoticons)". Seriously, has anyone pursued this angle in the mainstream media? I am thinking no. And that's why you tune in! J puts Harbaugh's chances of coaching UM at "yummy!" so translated into numbers that is 100% plus an emoji which indicates pure love.
Harbaugh as a young dude. Enjoy, ladies!
SUMMARY. Things are feeling good. But then again, sometimes they are not quite as good. Then, out of the blue, really good! So "pretty good" in summary. More seriously: December 29th. Halftime against Illinois. Announcements. Clearing of the smokescreen. CROWD GOES CRAZY. All hail Harbaugh.
