Jayme Thompson, 2013 S recruit from Toledo, has verballed to West Virginia. This was the potential commit reported yesterday by Tremendous. People are going back and forth on whether he actually had a commitable offer from us, but I'll take the kid's word for it that he did and just say best of luck at WVU.
I noticed this in the paper yesterday where it was mentioned that Mesko does a dead on Borat impression. Knowing his personality, I would have thought someone would have caputured this at some point for youtube by now. Searching only gets videos of him punting, face planting (two different videos in the first 10 results, strange) and what not (Kicking Coach promotional video is pretty good).b
I'm thinking that this class we inked today will be something special by the time they're Soph's or RS FR heading into the 2013 season. We'll have Gardner at QB with Bellomy and a FR Morris backing him, I'm assuming, unless one of those guys beats him out, you never know.
Add in the 2013 class, which could be another top 5 class and all the upper classmen that started playing the past 2 seasons and it would seem that 2013 can be something special, the schedule is more home friendly and our coaches will have had 3 years working in the system.
I think 2012 will be a good season with a very possible 10 wins, but there are some tough games and on the road too. Who knows, the team might kick ass next year as well, look at what they accomplished in 2011. Was just wondering what you guys think.
Edit: I thought it was more common knowledge how long Meyer was after Kalis, but I guess not. See this thread here for proof that it wasn't "one call". http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/kalis-tells-meyer-back "Recruting him hard" doesn't mean called once and said, "Interested?"
Just a random little note. I'm reading Stewart Mandel's take on Signing Day 2012 at SI.com, when I come across this little note about Meyer at OSU (Emphasis Mine).
Eight of the 25 players Ohio State signed Wednesday were committed to other schools before Meyer's arrival, including four-star defensive tackle Tommy Schutt (Penn State) and defensive end Se'Von Pittman (Michigan State). On Wednesday, Meyer added tackle Kyle Dodson, a former Wisconsin pledge. "It's pretty simple," Meyer said Wednesday. "You ask a guy if he's interested, and if he says no, you move on."
Tremendous: Speaking of phone calls, did you decide to answer it when Urb hit you up a few weeks ago?
Kyle: Well, it happened like this: I heard the phone ring one night and I saw it was a 614 number and knew who it was right away because it was right after a speech he gave. Before I had a chance to stop my mom, she had picked it up, so I had to talk to him.
C'mon, man. Oversigning with limitations AND baldface lying?

This is shocking to me, given that last years score was so one sided. I'm glad to see the Michigan guys played well, that was the one positive. At no point however, should we be losing a game in football to any international team. I don't blame the kids in this at all, they all played hard. I just can't believe that this was anywhere near close to happening. I thought it would be 5-10 years before teams could even compete against Americans in football.
Am I the only one amazed by this?
