"Rodrick Williams Jr.'s 10-month old, 2-foot-long savannah monitor named "Kill" gets the RB some strange looks when they go for walks together."
(This is not off-topic because Mattison's hire actually prompted me to look in to this)
So, based on what I was able to piece together, this is what Gary Moeller's staff looked like in 1994:
|Lloyd Carr||DC/Asst. HC|
After Moeller's dismissal, Les Miles left Michigan to become the OC at Oklahoma State under Bob Simmons, whom he had coached with at Colorado on McCartney's staff. That made the 1995 staff under interim head coach (later head coach) Lloyd Carr:
|Mike DeBord||Assistant Head Coach|
|Fred Jackson||RB & OC (thanks jmblue)|
So, a couple of things I am trying to work out (as I relive my high school years and spin (What's the Story) Morning Glory on repeat in my head.
1). What did Bill Harris coach for Michigan in 1994?
2). Did Gary Moeller serve as his own offensive coordinator?
3). Who was Coach Carr's offensive coordinator during the 1995 season? (DeBord did not get the job until 1997)
4). Is it possible that DeBord and Miles were coaching the O-Line in 1994?
5). Was Hoke's hire simply to coach the defensive ends, or was it a broader defensive portfolio? Does this indicate that Harris was a defensive coach that needed to be replaced?
Any help or insight that can be provided would be very helpful, thank you!
Seriously, this Mattison hire is the best off the field news for M football since when??
Since the story broke that RR was hired and we all hoped we were going to actually score lots of TDs and win games with our offense?
Since the title "interim coach" was removed and Lloyd became the head coach assuring stability and championships to come in the mid 90s?
Don't get me wrong, I am pretty darn happy abut this hire right now. I dont think I have ever seen this board this excited before. If you were all chicks at a bar I'm pretty sure I could score with each and every one of you tonight.
I'm wondering if people find this to be a better hire then Hoke was. You could make the case that he has a better resume then Hoke for the HC job.(I'm not saying he does, but it can be argued) And if he is more qualified, how the hell did Hulk Hoke pull this off?
Whats the deal with Flowers? He has some good offers, good size and speed. Why only a 3 star? Regardless, I want him in this class.
Angelique Chengelis (DetNews) spoke with Mattison...here's a few interesting quotes
"The biggest reason is Brady," Mattison told The News on Tuesday night. "I know he's going to win. Michigan is a special place. The longer you're away from it, even when you're in the NFL, it's still Michigan. Every Saturday when we're in our rooms relaxing before the Sunday games, I always watched Michigan. That doesn't leave you."
But he said Baltimore coach John Harbaugh helped make it an easy decision.
"He has so much respect for Brady," Mattison said. "He came into my office and said, 'The job you've done here is unbelievable, but I would understand if you went to Michigan because it's Michigan. I would understand because it's Brady Hoke.'
"Don't worry about me recruiting," Mattison said with a laugh. "Recruiting is all about where you're at. If you really believe in the school you're at … it's easy to sell a place like Michigan."
"He's one of the best recruiters out there — he's a helluva recruiter," Irons said. "I'd put him in anybody's house and he'll sell them on Michigan and will be genuine about it."
Great to hear, glad he's made it back on the team. Hurray for more linebackers!!
Oh, and for those of you with Twitter accounts better do what Webb says and follow him, wouldn't wanna make him angry...
