"The University of Illinois is also in turmoil. The university sports an Interim Chancellor, an Interim Athletic Director, and an Interim Football Coach; the game will be played at Soldier Field, making this an Illini Interim Home Game."
Nothing profound to be honest, except we can now see where Eddie lived with a quick Google Street View lookup of his home address which is listed in the story itself. Any other Columbus Wolverines wanna go play some "Ding Dong Ditch?"
When Danny O'Brien was quoted by Tom VH as being told that we will take only one interior guy I thought that might have been a pressure tactic, but over the past two days Sam Webb has voiced a firm opinion that we will take only one DT in this class. Take a look at the Depth Chart by Class and tell me what I am missing. By the time these recruits come to campus as true freshmen we will have at most five DT's on the roster and that will include Talbott who has injury issues and Rock whom we assume will grow into a 3 Tech. The only NT/One Tech players will be Ash (RS So.) and Q. Washington (RS Jr.). We all know that Wormley and/or Godin have the potential to grow into a 3 Tech, but that does not solve the depth problem inside. Given this scenario it seems obvious that we need both Pipkens and either O'Brien or another good interior DT, so IF the coaches are actually planning on taking only one it seems a bit strange. One possibility is that they are planning a new type of defense that is less dependent on big inside DT's.
INSERT: standard disclaimer that the coaches know what they are doing.
One possible good note on this is that Mattison and Hoke must like what they see from Q and Ash so far.
Stumbled across this interview with Mike Tyson in New York Magazine:
Other than his pigeons, he’s had pet tigers over the years. I ask Tyson if he were an animal, what animal would he be?
He looks up at the tinseled ceiling. He scratches his thick neck. “I’d like to be a lion, but I think I’m a wolverine,” he says.
Wolverines: “They’re like big giant rats. They’re about 50 pounds and fearless. They fight to the death. They don’t move fast. They walk slow because they’re not afraid of nothing. That’s how I think. And they can be a little reckless.”
If DB can get Iron MIke on the sideline taking pictures with the kiddos I would support that...
With Russell Wilson landing at UW does that make them the preseason favorites to win the B1G? QB was UW's glaring weekness going into this season but obviously Russell Wilson is a major upgrade from anyone they have on their current roster. He only has one year of eligability remaining so we would only see them in Indy.
The violations just keep piling up across the country, and it appears the University of Georgia has found themselves in the middle of a controversy involving this years starting OLB Jarvis Jones and their prized basketball recruit from the 2011 class Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Caldwell-Pope is the # 3 ranked SG in the class of 2011.
Current Georgia and former USC linebacker Jarvis Jones could have his eligibility called into question after the Columbus (GA) Parks and Recreation Department uncovered what appeared to an impermissible bank account used to pay for Jones’ air travel when he was a member of a Los Angeles, Nike-sponsored AAU team in 2009.
Adams reportedly provided financial assistance to UGA basketball signee Kentavious Caldwell-Pope by paying a $280 phone bill for Caldwell-Pope’s mother using AAU team funds.
Not sure how much will come of this, but it's another story where a contact allegedly violating NCAA rules is being investigated by law enforcement officials:
While police are still investigating the actions of P&R director Tony Adams and associate Herman Porter — both are (or, at least, were) involved in a local AAU team by the name of the Georgia Blaze — UGA has notified both the NCAA and the SEC regarding the allegations.
If both player's are ruled ineligible it would be a huge loss to both the football and basketball team
I know this has been batted around a million times by now, but according to Scout, now it looks like Kalis' father is supporting him committing to UM right now, but others in his family are maintaining that he should prolong the process for one reason or another. I wish the kid luck in his decision-making and the process.
