that is nice bonus change
This article is about the Reggie Bush and NC football scandals. It basically says that it's not agents that are breaking the most rules, it's sports marketers who operate in a gray area. There were two bits that stuck out to me.
These individuals are the source of much of the corruption in college football today, and are at the center of NCAA investigations underway at schools such as North Carolina and Georgia, as well as probes at other schools that are expected to be made public in the coming weeks.
Earlier this year, Michigan football players and aspiring pros Brandon Graham and Brandon Minorasked two fellow students they trusted -- Daniel Stillman and Jordan Klein -- to help them pick an agent. Less than a year later, Stillman and Klein have opened Compass Management Services, which manages the financial needs of those two NFL players and hopes to add others.
Stillman said concern for athletes being taken advantage of financially led him to start Compass Management Services. His intentions seem pure, but the fact remains that less than a year ago he was a college student, and now he is managing two NFL players' money.
I'm hoping Graham and Minor didn't contact these guys before they left school and that they stay away from our current players!
Here's Andy Staples of SI's explanation for not ranking Michigan this week.
I didn't rank Michigan this week because I still don't know how good the Wolverines are. I know quarterback Denard Robinson is one of the best players in the country, but a win against Notre Dame doesn't reveal anything because we don't know if Notre Dame is any good, either.
Uh huh. Well, how do we know if Alabama or Ohio State are any good either? All they did was win their first to games. Is it because Miami and Penn State are ranked? Well, how do we know Miami and Penn State are any good? All they did was win ONE of their first two games.
Now, this is a serious question. If you were a press person with a ranking, and you did not rank on resume, aren't you just stroking your ego? "I know more than reality, and baby, it feels good"?
I hereby declare a new rule. BCS conference teams are worth 3 points. Non AQ FBS teams are worth 2 points. FCS teams are worth 1 point. After points are calculated, ties will be broken based on the following criteria. Every touchdown scored is worth a point. Every touchdown given up loses a point, and every 100 yards gained or given up is worth half a point up or down, respectively.
There's your rankings. Prove to me that's not pretty much the only sane way to rank teams this early in the year. Later in the year, you can mix in Opponent Wins, etcetera.
I want to buy a Schutt authentic Michigan helmet and I see they come with the safety bars attached inside. Has anyone found someone who sells the helmet without the safety bar? Or know how to remove it?
Looking for 2-3 tickets for the Wisconsin game on November 20 at the Big House. My brother and I are for sure planing on making the trip, and possibly taking my father. He is a tormented Wolverine fan, living in Ohio. Any information would be great. I know I can get some decent tickets on stubhub and other sites. Just wanted to put the feelers out for some better seats. With 2 months until the game, I figure I have a little bit of time to be picky.
I love seeing updates from TomVH and Tim on official visits, what recruits are thinking, etc. However, it seems that one of the mods needs to see that the 2011 recruiting board under "useful stuff" is updated more. In particular, shouldn't the names of the recent three transfers be added in the top table, in order to update the available slots, and shouldn't we move Woolfolk out of the expired eligibility category? Is this something only Brian does, or are other mods capable and authorized to edit?
Remember all that talk about LeBron James coming to Columbus to support his lil' buddy Terrelle Pryor against Miami? The Ohio State police force denied him an escort, and it turns out without one he's just as scared to enter that Thunderdome-like freakshow as any safety minded opposing fan. Can't say I blame him for not showing without the cops, but hilarious nonetheless.
I can just imagine what Buckeye fans think of LeBron having their quarterback's ear, too. 'Forget the fans, man, just get yours. Go pro!' Yet another reason to be thrilled with Denard, who smiles throughout press conferences, answering questions with, "I was taught saying you're the man...just isn't a good thing to do."
Here's a couple links to some pretty heated opinions on "The King" and what went down:
