Niko Porikos grew up in an NTDP billet home. Cool story.
So I constantly peruse MDen and other sites that sell Michigan gear for new cool stuff. However, after the recent post regarding MDen new site design up; 2011 gear designs revealed, and my subsequent viewing of the MDen site, I am thoroughly disappointed in Dave Brandon's marketing efforts.
Michigan, and in particular the block M, is an invaluable trademark, and DB is pissing it away. The silly stitched block M on the ND game jerseys looks like a total fad. However, the worse sin is the fact that the vintage circle block M in the yellow circle on so many decent looking shirts, which IMO do look cool, is totally overshadowed by the equally large Adidas logo. That's so disappointing on Dave's part.
That cool vintage circle block M logo should not be juxtaposed a massive corporate logo. M should have paid for that design outright and simply marketed it on its own. It's not like anyone goes to the Adidas website for M gear. Why do we need that logo plastered all over our sweet shirts? I for one refuse to buy anything with corporate logos so prominently displayed upon them.
As you know, today Jarrod Wilson will pledge his commitment to either Michigan, ND, or PSU. I have always wanted Michigan to have a ball-hawking free safety. Is just me or is anyone else excited to find out what he decides?
There has been a lot of debate over how our offense is going to look this year. I figure, the best way to see is to look at SDSU film, and then factor in what Borges has said.
Looking at the first drive alone, I see almost all shotgun plays, a zone read play (!), no huddle, and SDSU marching right down the field against a ranked opponent. Factor in that Borges said that we would run more shotgun than he has in the past, and that he plans to run Denard for about 1,000 yards, and I honestly don't see a huge drop off this year. Sure, schemes are going to be different (different terminology, different (and quicker) reads on passes, etc), but nothing like some people on here are saying. You can ignore the defense in this video, thats going to look a whole lot different.
*I'm sure this has been posted before, but I think it deserves to be posted again, especially with the shotgun debate.
It had only made it to 82 million votes, I don't know WHY they would think that's tampering.
EDITORS NOTE: Due to poll tampering that has led to technical issues, the Championship Round has been shut down and the votes cast since the round opened have been thrown out. Voting will reset and move to SportsNation's Facebook page on Friday, July 8.
I posted a topic a while back asking if anyone had heard of any deals for purchasing NCAA Football 12 like Dell.com had last year, but no one had heard of anything. I found this, and I thought I'd share it if anyone is interested.
If you purchase the game at Amazon, you get a $20 credit to your Amazon account. You'll most likely have to wait a couple days after it releases to receive it in the mail, but if you don't mind that its a pretty good deal.
As everyone knows by now there are several Michigan commitments and targets at the Nike event, The Opening, in Oregon. You can watch some of the events tonight on ESPNU at 9pm. The first part of the week was spent with the prospects running combine drills to figure out their Sparq training score.
The Sparq score is determined by using an equation that combines the prospect's forty yard dash, shuttle, powerball* (measured in feet), and vertical leap. Here are a look at the scores for the Michigan commitments and targets, and you can also see the rest of the scores here. The finals video is here.
|DB Anthony Standifer||4.61||4.38||38||30.7||91.77|
|DB Terry Richardson||4.55||4.22||31||33.2||87.93|
|DE/LB Mario Ojemudia||5.02||4.44||35||30.1||79.29|
|OL Erik Magnuson||5.38||4.78||41||22||77.85|
|WR Dwayne Stanford||4.73||4.35||40||34.9||101.64|
|OL Kyle Murphy||5.31||4.52||42||28.3||96.21|
|DE Adolphus Washington||4.97||4.57||42.5||24.6||91.89|
|OL Josh Garnett||5.38||4.68||38||28||90.81|
|OL Adam Bisnowaty||5.31||5.34||44.5||25.6||79.89|
|OL Zach Banner||5.54||5.34||44.5||19.6||79.89|
|TE Ron Thompson||5.27||4.51||38||25.4||75.51|
Top Three Scores:
|DB Daje Johnson (TCU)||4.34||4.01||45||40.8||146.52*|
|RB Derrick Henry (2013)||4.54||4.29||42.5||39.2||134.19|
|RB Altee Tenpenny (2013)||4.49||3.92||41||35.1||133.77|
As you can see this testing isn't necessarily set up for the bigger prospects to score high. The forty times were, I believe, laser timed also. That's at least what people were tweeting that were at the event. Take from this what you will, just interesting to see how they all stack up if nothing else.
Derrick Henry is also a 6'4", 222 lb running back. He's in the 2013 class and took second in the preliminary ratings.
Ohio RB Bri'onte Dunn only had a 40 time recorded, it was a 4.77.
*The powerball is throwing a weighted ball from their knees as far as they can.
**I believe Daje' Johnson's score is a record
