this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines
Question for the folks out there:
Where is "South Detroit?"
I was born in Detroit and raised in the suburbs. I have never lived more than 30 miles from the Detroit border yet I have never wandered into this elusive part of Detroit. I can easily identify the east side, west side, and the southwest corner of the city. One would suppose from the way thousands of Detroit area fanatics belt out the lyrics from the classic rawk hit that the region is famous or populated or exists.
I hope someone can fill this gap for me. If not, well, I will forever endure the apprehensive shudder that courses through my soul each time the first note of the Journey song pierces the gameday sanctity of Michigan Stadium.
Via DGDestroys twitter, Michigan has started to get back in to things with cornerback Yuri Wright. "Yuri Wright, says Michigan is the school he's always wanted to go to and that they'll definitely get a visit.
It may have been overzealous competition for future athletes, or simply a couple of errors attributed to a misunderstanding of athletic bylaws.
But the actions of the football programs at both Sylvania high schools — Southview and Northview — were each ruled to be in violation of Ohio High School Athletic Association bylaws dealing with recruiting incoming high school student-athletes.
If you are wondering the relevance of this thread. Sylvania Southview is the high school of 2012 Football Recruit, Allen Gant.
I updated a few of the positions from the list I put up a few weeks back with the new commits and threw in a few potential players in parenthesis. Also, I switched up Ojemudia and Strobel's spots at WDE and SDE, respectively. I only have two 2013 recruits listed as potential starters outside of Morris who has committed and they are Wyatt Shallman and Dymonte Thomas at RB. I realize that Thomas projects better at safety, but he could play RB depending on how the cards fall. I also had to speculate on who will get redshirted and who will not. This is a rough idea as to what our team could look like and is not by any means definitive.
Let the drooling commence.
QB: Shane Morris Jr/Jr
FB: Sione Houma Sr/Sr
RB: Justice Hayes Sr/Sr* (Dunn please. If Hayes isn’t redshirted, we could potentially be looking at Shallman or Dymonte Thomas if he doesn’t play S)
WR: (Madaris, Darboh, Chesson, Payton; Hopefully Reeves or Diggs. I don’t think Stanford will be a part of this class.)
TE: Funchess Sr/Sr OR Barnett Sr/Sr*
LT: Erik Magnuson Sr/Sr
LG: Kyle Kalis Jr/Sr
C: Jack Miller Sr/Sr*
RG: Blake Bars Jr/Sr
RT: Ben Braden Jr/Sr (Diamond?)
SDE: Chris Wormley Sr/Sr OR Tom Strobel Sr/Sr
DT: Matt Godin Jr/Sr OR Chris Wormley Sr/Sr
NT: (Any one of Pipkins, O’Brien, Shittu would do nicely)
WDE: Mario Ojemudia Jr/Sr OR Pharaoh Brown Sr/Sr
WLB: Joe Bolden Sr/Sr
MLB: Royce Jenkins-Stone Sr/Sr
SLB: James Ross Sr/Sr
CB: Terry Richardson Sr/Sr; Anthony Standifer Sr/Sr (Reeves)
SS: Allen Gant Jr/Sr
FS: Jarrod Wilson Sr/Sr
How is it that we have simply just stopped talking about his guy. Ok i get it he tore his ankle up last year and missed the season but prior to that he was everywhere we looked on the blog pages...you tube...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT5HvYwL7NU...and it was like we lost a child when he went out. Im wondering is there a reason for this? Is he not healthy this year? or simple just not as good due to the injury? If its nethier and we have just let him slip between the cracks im hurt. Maybe its all the HOke and Mattison hype that has stolen the spotlight, but this dude deserves some props. We only have a couple seniors on D this year (again) and Hoke is saying its gonna be a senior lead team. If thats the case hes def. in charge of the defense. We need to stand behind and bring em back.
