Mike Lantry, 1972
Says he will take 3 visits and decide in November. Took 1st visit to Cal, 2nd visit to USC and 3rd visit is a mystery that will shock people.
I still think he heads west, but it would be a step in the right direction to get him on campus.
Inspired by my own bizarre, and for the most part inexplicable and certainly not premeditated post on this thread, I offer a challenge:
You're Rich Rodriguez. It's Saturday night, somewhere after 7:00 pm. The team is gathered in the bowels of Beaver Stadium, and have prepared for battle. The ankles are taped, the jerseys have been pulled over the pads, and the dreads have been pulled back behind the ears. The players have put away their iPods and have gathered together around your feet. This is your last moment to speak to them together as a team, and instill the attitude and mindset that you'd like your team to perform with on a national stage.
What do you say?
Who's got the best Coach-Speak on MGoBlog? No prizes here, no trophies of bronze monkey nuts or bottles of Aqua Velva, just bragging rights, perhaps until next Friday....
Release your inner COACH and FIRE US UP!!!
Something small that I just saw that must have slipped through the cracks. I am not sure if this means anything about tomorrow but Rivals is saying Carvin Johnson moved to FS and Cam Gordon is working spur.
Other small note from article: Marvin Robinson could play LB in some Nickel situations.
I love MGoBlog's Picture Pages posts, but I'm so obtuse that sometimes I can't follow them in still shots or even the unadorned play video. To overcome this, I created an annotated video companion to the two latest Picture Pages. I'll probably keep doing this for the rest of the year [Ed-M: Yes, please!] as making them really helped me figure out what Brian was talking about in the original posts (included text is with his permission, BTW).
Apologies in advance to those who have already seen part of this in the Iowa UFR Errata post, but there's new stuff here too.
Losing Contain, Again Again:
The sitch: Iowa has a 3rd and 3 from Michigan's 11 yard line, late in the 3rd quarter. They come out with an unbalanced I-form which they've used to little effect during the day, Michigan answers with a 4-4 with both cornerbacks lined up over the two receivers on the weakside. M blitzes the strongside safety (Kovacs), meaning Jonas Mouton is now the outside guy. He takes the inside shoulder of Iowa's tackle, meaning there's nobody left to contain outside. Iowa scores.
(More) Freshman DB Doom:
The sitch: Iowa has a 3rd and 10 from the Michigan 14, and M rolls Cover 2. Freshman nickelback Courtney Avery turns his head around and chases the inside vertical receiver way too far, abandoning his zone and turning the underneath drag into a wide-open path to the endzone. Iowa scores.
Hopefully these will make the plays make more sense to the more video-inclined.
While updating the Depth Chart by Class (in light of the Campbell / Q. Washington position switch) it first dawned on me that all Guards on the roster are Sophomores. This position switch just made Guard recruiting for 2010 a priority.
Even with a great recruiting class at guard in 2010, in 2013, the most experienced Guards on our roster will be Redshirt Sophs with no Juniors or Seniors (and this is with 0 recruits at this point to fill that void).
This, of course, doesn't consider possible future position switches (Khoury to Guard if Pace is ready to back-up) or playing a true Freshman at the position -- the last option could be more of a sign of necessity (as in playing true freshman CBs this year) than the readiness of a true freshman starting on the line in the Big 10.
Tackle in 2011: 1 Sr - 2 Soph - 2 Redshirting Fr. (Posada, Fisher)
Center in 2011: 1 Sr - 1 Jr. - 1 Fr. - 1 Redshirting Fr. (Miller)
Gaurd in 2011: 4 Jrs. - No Recruits
It looks like Zettel, UM, and OG is a match made in heaven - hopefully Cyrus Hobbi can get back in the picture too. And the consistent recruitment of James Elliott makes a lot more sense to me after seeing the "situation" we will be in down the road.
Just caught Drew (Dull) Sharp pick Penn State over M on sports talk radio. He also thinks Sparty goes down to Iowa.
Gotta love his overwhelming sense of self regard, too.
