WAY OT: 97.1 TicketText Banhammer?
Last week, Valenti was being exceptionally douchey and I just couldn't take listening to his double talk anymore. As he spewed his BS on the air, I fired off about 4 texts refuting some of the jibberish coming out of my speakers (armed with MGoKnowledge).
Well, something must have resonated with him because he rifled off 2 texts telling me how "(he) speaks the truth" and how I am "blind."
Since then, I have sent 2 TicketTexts but have not received the obligatory SPAM response text. I can only assume that my cell number has been added to the "blocked" list. I consider that a small victory in itself.
Update on Carvin and Fitz
It appears Fitz could play and is being listed as probable, so he'll probably see limited action this week. Carvin will probably be ready after the UMASS game, but will more than likely be held out another week. He should be good to go for BG, but I'm guessing he'll return for conference opener if there's a hint of the injury remaining.
Semi OT: Florida Gators and the law
I thought this article about Urban Meyer's tenure at Florida is pretty interesting, as his teams have had a total of 30 players arrested for a variety of crimes, some minor and some rather substantial. That works out to 59 wins and 30 arrests, a staggering number in light of the fact that the dominant story the past 3-4 years is how the Tebow-led Gators are America's Team and Meyer is a great guy who runs a solid program. By comparison, the author points out that by comparison, Miami U had the one Robert Marve incident and that is it.
To an extent, you have to expect some brushes with the law when you are dealing with 100+ college-aged men, not even taking into account the nature of football football and the deification the players receive at most schools. But at the same time, 30 arrests across a broad spectrum of offenses, including stalking, drunk driving, and larceny, probably represents more than youthful indiscretions. Plus, we are only talking about actual arrests, not the various incidents that go unreported.
I find it funny that UM has been dragged through the mud for the whole Practicegate and a couple of miscues (i.e. Feagin, Cissoko) while Florida has largely remained above reproach by most in the media. Some of that is undoubtedly due to their dominance on the field, but I also think it points to the power of Tebow, who became the wholesome face of the program and shielded it from scrutiny.
Dayne Crist injury play?
Will BTN replay UMass game? Might it be on Sirius?
Will BTN replay UMass game during the week? Is this possible/probable? Are replays something they do as a rule so I can count on it?
There is no way in hell I can see the game in real time Saturday as I will be on the road/visiting family in SECC territory. Best I can do is grab a brew for lunch at an Applebees or some such and monitor the score. Or, if it's on sirius I can listen in my car but that seems unlikely.
Most likely I will follow it with the liveblog at my parents...beveled guilt indeed. Thanks for all you do Brian & Co.
