What the title says. An excellent read and well worth your time.
Kruger bent down, pushed away the grass cropped over the edge of the stone and brushed off the dirt to unveil the forgotten name: Willis Franklin Ward. The name means something different to everyone. For Gerald Ford it meant his closest friend at Michigan. For Jesse Owens it meant his fiercest competitor. For the man himself, it meant being etched in Michigan lore as the only player banned from Michigan Stadium for the color of his skin
Article by Washington Post today on #1 recuit in the nation for 2014, DE Da'Shawn Hand (Woodbridge, VA, about 20 min south of Wash DC). This will provide some insight on why he might be high on Michigan -- he wants an engineering degree. Look at all of the top football programs, none East of the Mississippi are quite at our level of engineering too.*
The Post, at least, makes this kid sound like the kind of quality recruit we fancy would see us as a cut above Bama and tSIO.
* I would say these are the competitive engineering programs at BCS conference schools on somewhat of the same plane as Michigan: Illinois, Penn State, Ga Tech, Auburn, Virginia, VaTech (well VaTech likes to think they are on this list). If you go further west, then Stanford (obv), Cal, TAMU, and Washington come into play. If you look at which ones are going to be football powerhouses turning out DL guys to the NFL, well, only Auburn and possibly VaTech would be real competitors. If i were a 2014 recruit, I'd worry about Beamer not being there in 2018. Same with Auburn's coach, who might not be there in 2014, frankly.
EDIT: Forgot the obvious engineering school Purdue, as has been pointed out. UT-Austin sometimes is said to be a good engineering school, but I'd be interested in those in the engineering field agree with that. Somewhat like Va-Tech, some schools claim to be good at engineering but, out in the market, companies don't necessarily see it that way.
I am driving up to the game now from Pittsburgh. Has there been a ton of rain in Ann Arbor this week? I see it is supposed to rain most of the day today, and chance of rain on Saturday morning as well. Has anyone heard if the golf course will be open? If not - what is the next best place to tail-gate?
Sam Webb on WTKA just said there would be a commitment this weekend. Sam wouldn't specify who the commitment would be. Denzel Ward is the obvious candidate. I would love to see Damon Webb. Thoughts?
I've never seen AJ Pearson mentioned on this blog, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he contributes on the field, maybe as early as next season.
AJ Pearson is a walk-on Safety on the football team. His HS video reminds me of Jordan Kovacs, he like to hit, and could be a Special Team star. Great to see kids like this make a huge personal sacrifice to be a Michigan Wolverine.
Has anybody noticed young Pearson on the sidelines this fall? He should be sporting 36

Personal Statement I am a 6'0, 193 lb strong safety/outside linebacker from Johns Creek, Ga. I am looking for a school that will challenge me both in the classroom and on the field. I value my education a lot and would like to go to a school that has the same values and expectations that I do. I I want to feel comfortable enough with the teachers and professors to ask them questions before, during, and after class. I would like to be in a competitive athletic environment and to have a chance to make an early impact on the team. I am a very hard working and self motivated. I pursue my goals on and off the field passionately. I keep working until the job is done and I never give up on a task. I give my all on the field and more. I lead my team in the weight room, in the lockeroom, and especially on the field. I have a diligent spirit and look to make the best of myself with the oppertunites given to me.
Dec. 22, two days before the five-year anniversary of the night the lives of Brock Mealer and his entire family changed, he will get married.
He met Haley Frank less than two years ago after escorting her to a fundraiser at a Fricker's restaurant for a young cancer patient. At that point, Mealer was invited to attend all sorts of events to tell his story or to just be there as a source of inspiration.
But this one, he didn't want to attend alone. So he picked Haley up at her house, entering into a relationship that has led him to this point.
