landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
After releasing the Rivals 100 yesterday, the new Rivals 250 has been released today.
Michigan players appearing;
Dymonte Thomas-#102 (Previously #95)
Chris Fox-#112 (Previously #57)
Jake Butt-#132 (Previously #118)
Jourdan Lewis-#150 (Previously #147)
David Dawson-#165 (Previously #171)
Wyatt Shallman-#206 (Previously #182)
Ross Douglass-#232 (Previously #222)
Taco Charlton-#233 (Making his debut)
Logan Tuley-Tillman-#241 (Previously #235)
Ben Gedeon dropped out of the 250 completely but with a Rivals rating of 5.8 he is close to being ranked more likely.
Every other Michigan commit is a 3 star or lower, with Maurice Hurst Jr., Deveon Smith, Csont'e York, and Jaron Dukes all receiving ratings of 5.7, meaning they are close to becoming 4 stars.
Michigan now has 14 players in the top 250.
Ohio State has 11.
Notre Dame has 8.
Michigan State has 0.
There is going to be a Rivals chat at 2 PM today to discuss the new rankings. Any questions about why Michigan players dropped will most likely be answered the same way that they were yesterday in the Rivals 100 chat. That being that it's not that these players dropped and got worse, but other players imporved and passed them.
Certain players were discussed in the chat yesterday, namely Fox and Dymonte. The stated reason for Fox's drop was his streaky performance at the 5 star challenge in the summer. Dymonte's drop was more because he was not a big camper, so he did not have the same exposure as other recruits.
Tom from AA's post yesterday regarding the M Fanfare reminded me to re-post my original poll started in January.
The question: How many people know the entire lyrics to "The Victors"? HINT: The first word is not "Hail", it is "Now".
If you already voted previously, please do not vote again. Currently we are 20/33 (60%) who knew all the lyrics. Here is a good video from some M students that is worth watching.
As we try desperately to fill remaining days between now and kickoff, I thought it would be interesting to remember some of the notable blocks in Michigan history. I'll offer a few, but I'm sure there are many others which will appear as if by magic in the comments below.
Patrick Omameh vs. Notre Dame, 2010
We all remember the run, and most of us remember the block. Omameh cleared Te'o straight through the safety. Denard ran. There was much rejoicing.
Martavious Odoms vs. WMU, 2009
Broken plays are MUCH more dangerous when you've got a goddamn mountain goat rushing from the far side of the play to free you up.
Aaron Shea vs. the State of Wisconsin, 1998
Recently discussed. All your edge are belong to Aaron Shea.
Alfie Burch v. Ohio, 1991
Magicians call this misdirection; your eyes are so drawn to the shiny object shaking tacklers like whoa, you may not even notice number 7 fly into the play. Goodbye Buckeye, Hello Heisman. Much like...
Unknown Hero v. Ohio, 1997
I don't know who this is, but I've always appreciated this block. If you watch behind Woodson, some intrepid dude clears two would-be tacklers from Charles' baffles. Heisman Redux.
What else ya got?
This is a quick 2 minute update. What this post lacks in actual info. will be made up for with speed. SEC speed. Bill King’s radio show on Sirius had a 247 guy from the Alabama site. Sorry didn’t get his name.
Didn’t have much on Eddie Lacy’s recent injury, except to echo what Saban has said (he’ll be back for Michigan). Interestingly, he did discuss the turf toe injury of a while ago, saying Lacy looked slow on it during the first week of camp. By the second week he seemed to be doing better.
TJ Yeldon got a lot of work (29 carries) in the two fall camp scrimmages – believes he’s going to play extensively against Michigan. Says he looks the part physically and has been impressive. Talked a little bit about the backs behind them, didn’t say a word about Dee Hart.
They have a JUCO cornerback who looks like he’s going to step right in and play at a high level. Of course they do. Also discussed a 6’6” 250 lb. hybrid LB/DE who apparently they really like. Sorry, didn’t get the names. Again, speed. You’re not used speed like this in the B1G.
BONUS WILTFONG TALKS MICHIGAN RECRUITING: Two horse race between Auburn and Michigan for Green. A lot of people think Auburn after the recent visit, but he spent 3 days in Ann Arbor and they set the bar. Next step is an official to Michigan for the Sparty game. Didn’t sound like a decision was imminent. Who knows.
BONUS WILTFONG TEARS OF NOTRE DAME: They’re pretty screwed at CB. They have a ton of top recruits, including CBs, coming in for the night game against Michigan.
Yahoo! released on of their typical, preseason, best-of lists. MSU comes in at #9 and OSU comes in at #6. I'll leave the rest as a surprise.
