You folks that are in Ann Arbor today are blessed. You're in Mecca. What I and the rest of the Michigan diaspora would not give to be there today.
Request: Please post videos throughout the day of the opening day scene: The tailgates, the frat parties, the drum-line show / band walk to the stadium, the Church street team walkthru, player warmups in the stadium, etc., etc.
Anything to help give those of us stuck in the desert a drink of what it feels like to be there today on opening day!!
Sometimes it feels like an eternity until the season begins, but today Team 134 will take the field. This thread is dedicated to home opener morning traditions. Here is mine:
- Wake up
- Blast The Victors on whatever speakers I have available with absolutely no regard for those living with me.
- Crack first beer during The Victors
- Watch a succession of hype videos on YouTube. This must include the Better Son/Daughter video because one must remember the bad times to appreciate the good.
- Eat pancakes
It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine.
After watching the Spartans play this evening, I had the strange feeling that I had seen this team before but I could not quite place where. The game, which had about 22 punts , was not "must see TV" by any means but it did have a purpose for many conference opponents fans. What are we going to have to deal with...?
From what I was able to see, the Spartans have still got a decent defensive unit. They seem very opportunistic in trying to force turnovers and getting after the QB. The offense was atrocious and Mr. Dantonio will be in the hospital if this happens against the Irish when they play here pretty soon. Between Maxwell and the other QB that played, I do not know if they can honestly say that they have a shot at winning against he top tier conference teams! O'Connor the kid from my town in Ohio (Lima) did not play. I thought that I had heard that he was doing well in camp but maybe Dantonio thought he should continue to hide in the weeds a little longer with that one.
I know that I should wait a few games before getting too excited thinking that we will go in to East Lansing and smack them around for 4 qtrs but I cannot help it. I sure as heck better watch us play tomorrow before writing that check but that team that I thought I had seen before was in that same stadium but it was coached by John L. Smith then...
Their defense did have some spectacular plays one of which will easily be compared to Charles Woodson's leaping, one handed, masterpiece...though the degree of difficulty on his was exponentially higher since he was near the sideline. There are not many teams that can win with depending primarily on their defense. Since we have seen Indiana and Minnesota both display the ability to score points so far, is there anybody out there beside me that thinks that Mark Dantonio should be glad that he did not open with either of them?
Your thoughts please...
This is to all of you that had negative responses about a Sparty thread. This was intended for light discussion. It was not an exhaustive study on the teams capabilities or dissertation on how much they hate us. If you didn't want to read it, the solution was very simple. I have no love for fellow Michigan fans that feel the need to nit pick the other posts because they are so enlightened. I am a casual reader of many of your posts...this is not that serious folks. Life is short, calm the heck down!
It's finally here! Welcome back Michigan football! A cold front pushed south across Michigan overnight, and will linger just south of the state line. This will cause some cloud cover across the area this morning, turn into a mix of sun and clouds for the afternoon, and also keep the slight chance of rain in the forecast. It'll be hot and humid - great day to show off this year's t-shirt!
Cloudy & mostly cloudy skies for our first 2013 Saturday morning with a chance of a passing rain shower. And mild temps to start the day! We're looking at about 70 degrees through mid-morning with a gentle northerly breeze at 8-10mph (small leaves and twigs may blow about). Warming up to the mid 70s for lunchtime and humid - with how often you'll be reaching in for a cold brewski it may not the best day to pick the cooler to sit on!
82 degrees for the start of the game! Heat index has it feeling like low 80s, and it'll be humid. Winds will drop from the morning, staying out of the north but only at 5mph (just enough wind to feel it, some leaves will rustle). We'll have some sun and some clouds, and although there's still the slim (we're talking about 10%) possibility of a few drops falling, almost all models show us to be dry.
Still hot and humid for the halftime show! 83 degrees and partly cloudy. As we go throughout the afternoon, it may be football season but we're still hanging on to the last bit of summer - with partly cloudy skies there is a moderate UV level, so those that burn easily may want to swipe on some sunscreen. There is also very little wind by this time. Out of the NNE, expect winds at 3-5mph (you'd barely see ripples on a lake). Our chance of rain does increase a bit towards the end of the game, and although not likely, a passing shower can't be ruled out.
Still near 80 as you walk out those gates to celebrate a win! Keeping a mix of sun and clouds, and just a slight chance of rain (rain and storm chances go up for Sunday). Winds will shift to come out of the NE for the evening, then easterly for the late-night hours. It will remain very light before diminishing, so don't look forward to a cool breeze anytime today! Temperatures will stay in the 70s until 10pm, then drop to 65 for last call. Expect some patchy fog to form at nighttime too. Go Blue!
Christina Burkhart is a meteorologist for NBC/ABC in Traverse City, MI. She grew up in Ann Arbor and associates Saturdays with Michigan football. Go Blue!!
You can count the left-handed quarterbacks left in the NFL on one hand.
Twenty-two quarterbacks were taken in the 2012 and 2013 NFL drafts - none of them were lefties. The 2014 NFL draft looks to be devoid of left-handed quarterbacks too.
Shane Morris truly may be the great lefty hope. Is Shane aware that he’s got an entire fraternity of current and former NFL players relying on his prized left arm?
I just noticed that some likely ND grad who edits wikipedia made an inaccurate reference in Wikipedia for the Michigan ND rivalry. It says:
"Michigan backed out of the series for the 2018 and 2019 football season. Notre Dame decided to cancel the 2015 through 2017 games. Possible games for 2020 are yet to be determined."
We of course know that that's not true. In fact the footnote (2) is a Mgoblue.com article that says both teams decided to cancel the 2018 and 2019 games.
So MGoWikipedia users, please stay on this and keep this up to date with the required references:
"Both teams cancelled the 2018, 2019 games and ND CHICKENED out of 2015 - 2017."
Here is the link
Edit if you care.
