here's one vote for "John Beilein's head in a Futurama jar"
OSU got some good news with the results of the BMV investigation. They were understandably pleased and announced they were canceling an independent investigation they had planned. As many pointed out here, some questions were left unanswered. Presumably the NCAA will still have some interest in the loaner cars, statements from former players about car deals, shaky OSU compiance records and other car related smoke.
That leads to the obvious question; what will the NCAA think of OSU's investigation? It looks like they have established a pattern of under-investigating itself, not the level of cooperation the NCAA wants. It increases the chances of the NCAA drawing out their own investigation.
Was this a calculated gamble or just another misstep in dealing with their scandal? Either way, it could lead to tougher sanctions if the NCAA uncovers infractions that OSU should have found. Dragging the process out hurts ttem too.
Knock on wood, it looks like we're finally heading in the right direction to end the lockout.
Per Jason Cole @ Yahoo! Sports:
NFL could be back in business by July 15
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Now that NFL owners appear to have cleared a significant hurdle on the way to labor peace with the players, the question for the league is simple: How fast can they get the league year started?
The short answer is sometime on or just before July 15. By that point, the league may be reopen for business on a permanent basis, meaning free agents could get signed and draft picks could start to meet with coaches for the first time in hopes of catching up as much as possible by the start of training camp.
Please let the billionaires vs millionaires squabble come to an end...
While it's obvious that Wile will make an immediate impact at kicker, I'm personally excited to see what Thomas Rawls brings to the table. He is a hard nosed runner and could punish people in a tandem with Stephen Hopkins. Which Freshman is everyone most excited to see take the field this season?
Mod Edit: No Bleacher Report. However, it's June 21st and the question hasn't been asked in a little while, so the question stands. [zl]
I have been one of the "lucky ones" to have unrenewable season tickets for the last two years. While it is somewhat obvious this package could have been offered again this year, DB decided on a strategy to maximize revenue ($295 for half a season with one of the three big games with a $25 surcharge instead of $480 for all the games with a $7 surcharge). Hard for me to complain since I knew what I was getting myself into.
I emailed the ticket office to ask if I would be allowed to purchase a 4 game pack before the general public since I had season tickets the last two years and they sent me a link to info on the four game packs. When I replied asking them to if they could answer my question the reponse I got was basically NO you're not a season ticketholder. Thank you for the $2300+ the last two years. Now get in line with the general public. No thank you.
Flint defensive tackle Danny O'Brien (6'2", 293 lbs) has seen his recruitment take off. He's added offers from the likes of Alabama and Florida among others. He went up to Michigan's camp today to show the Michigan coaches what he could do and prove his worth. Here's what he had to say about the day.
TOM: How did the day go?
DANNY: Good, I tore it up. I didn't work out in the second part, I just kind of hung out and talked with everybody.
TOM: What was the outcome from this camp with Michigan? I know there was a discrepancy of sorts with being on the same page.
DANNY: There was basically some confusion during the spring on how they wanted things to go and they told me they wanted me to come to camp and prove myself. They told me that there's basically only a couple defensive tackles with offers and they will probably only take one interior guy. They're going to recruit me really hard now and they gave me the pitch and everything.
TOM: So what's next? I know you told me the other day that you were going to come out with a top five soon.
DANNY: Yeah in July I'll come out with a top five. I don't have a leader anymore, I'm just going to evaluate all the schools in the top five and go from there.
TOM: Do you know when you want to have your final decision made?
DANNY: I'd like to take some official visits then make the decision late in the season or after the season, but I'm not sure yet.
