A former NFL DE reviews Lewan's play during last year to evaluate his draft stock. I'll let you read the article, but here's a money quote:
Basically, Michigan was cheating [ed: not literally] lining up a tight end to Lewan's side. But it was the stupidest kind of cheating ever.
Name: Mikale Washington
Ht/Wt: 6'3" / 175 lbs.
Location: Martin Luther King Jr. – Detroit, MI (2016)
With spring football all but wrapped up the coaches now turn their attention entirely to player evaluations and recruiting. Even though there isn't a ton of actual football stuff going on, visitors will still visit campus to check out the Ann Arbor lifestyle and the academic side of things. 2016 QB Mikale Washington will do just that today as he visits campus for the second time in about a week as he was just in Ann Arbor last weekend for the spring game.
Washington told me that he feels like Michigan is genuinely interested since they reached out to his uncle and asked him to come back after the spring game. That has left a solid impresion on the young quarterback.
So far from what I've seen Michigan has a really nice program. The team is great and overall it just seems like a really nice environment. I didn't really grow up liking them but now that I'm getting older I'm starting to get more and more familiar with them. My favorite team growing up was probably USC and then I started liking Oregon too.
Washington will be in Ann Arbor for the day and has a pretty good idea of what he'll be doing.
I'll be with the offensive coordinator and with some of the players as well. I plan on doing a little bit of chalk-talk with the other coaches too.
Michigan is obviously showing some early interest, but the process is young for Washington and ironically the University of Washington is showing him the most attention at this time.
Michigan has yet to nail down a favorite quarterback target in the 2015 class so focusing on the position in 2016 isn't a priority at this time. That being said Washington has grabbed the attention of the staff and is certainly a name to watch moving forward.
THE OFFER VIBE
0 - Not going to happen
1 - Doesn't look good right now, but we'll see
2 - 50/50, yes or no, wouldn't be surprised
3 - It looks like an offer could come in the future
4 - I fully expect an offer to come
5 - Guarantee this kid is offered
It is really early right now but Washington has been identified as a target and he's local. Even if he does become a highly coveted target for the coaching staff, an offer wouldn't come for quite some time based on how the coaches generally offer QB's.
EDIT: I think this has been established by now, but Washington was visiting Michigan State, not Michigan. This was just a misunderstanding. The visit got set up through Mikale's uncle and even Mikale thought he was visiting Michigan until they set out toward East Lansing, at which time he texted me and apologized for giving me incorrect information. Washington just recently moved to Detroit from San Diego and is still quite unfamiliar with certain things.
An interesting, but long, read about a start-up American Football team in Chongqing China. The article features former Michigan Wolverine Chris McLaurin. I thought some of you might enjoy it.
