a terrible blight on our fine country
Four (of seven) of CNNSI.com's "experts" pick Michigan to end up in a BCS Bowl (either the Rose or the Sugar). Almost all of them have two Big Ten teams in the BCS, with Wisconsin and MSU being the non-Michigan teams who show up in the picks.
I'm not 4/7ths sure that Michigan will make it to the BCS, and I don't think it's a given that the Big Ten will have two teams (given that OSU is inelligible), but I suppose it's better to be on the list than off of it.
Three of the experts:
Does anyone know a fellow Michigan "fan" who thinks they know everything about sports, yet in truth they know next to nothing?
There's a guy who works for my company who constantly talks about Michigan football and tries to spread his insight because he has a "friend who works in the athletic department." Who knows if it's true. But if he does, that friend is an idiot and feeds him garbage.
Last year, he told me that MSU wanted to get rid of Kirk Cousins because he was a "bad influence on the team." Yesterday, he struck up a conversation with me and went on and on about Michigan's "Coach Holt" and "Gerard Robinson." Recently he told me that Boise is going to pound MSU. I asked him why...the response:
- "They have that great quarterback." ME: "Kellen Moore? He plays for the Lions now."
- "Oh, but they have a good RB too." ME: "Doug Martin? He plays for the Buccaneers now."
- "Yeah, but they have that Titus guy." ME: "He plays for the Lions too."
Does anyone else run into people like this? I must admit that I sometimes find joy in my conversations based on the absurdity that comes out of his mouth. Other times, it's just downright painful to listen to.
I like how he has both a pen and a whistle.
My final quiz question today was 'Who is the starting quarterback for Michigan.' & four people got it. FOUR. Alabama students are terrible.
This was after they asked to have the quiz today because the majority of them were going to Dallas for the game.
@ejgold90 it just further proves my point that Alabama students know nothing about football.
Also, don't worry, I yelled at every single one of them & told them 'KNOW YOUR ENEMY'. I swear, y'all.
I also found this when I was a graduate student at Texas. It was almost as if football didn't exist outside of the Big 12 for them.
So as the season kicks off tomorrow night are there any games this weekend that you think might be upset specials? Leaving the Bama game off the list any other games where upset looms large?
I like Auburn to beat Clemson with Clemson not having super-soph Sammy Watkins and still feeling West Virginias foot in their butt.
Wishful Thinking - Number two, you guessed it! BSU at MSU on Friday night. Yes at Sparty stadium, MSU Def is very good, and BSU lost almost everyone. Enter one of the best football coaches in the land Chris Peterson. This guy can coach and they will be ready, it happens every year. So much rests on the performance of Maxwell. I think its close and BSU wins a close one 20-16.
