well that's just, like, your opinion, man
I haven't posted these regularly because I didn't want to spam the board with things I wrote on another site. But football talk has come to crawl as we wait for fall camp to begin, so I thought it would be a good time for those that want to catch up on what's inside the playbook of some of the B1G teams.
Hopefully this is enough football talk to get people through the weekend and up to fall camp.
Inside the Playbook - Will take you to a page with links to all articles
How Urban Meyer's spread borrowed from the single wing (with lots of old timey Michigan footage in the single wing)
It's Friday and only 27 days until we finally have some college football, and 29 days until the Chips go down. Also, first preseason NFL game is in two days, we are getting closer! Hope everyone has a great last Friday of the offseason! What are plans for the weekend??
I've always wondered how a fool like Gee gets to where he is. But he's no fool -- what a golden parachute for being a dufus, albeit a dufus who raised a ton of dinero for tOSU.
This feels like payoff money -- like there's something in the closet, right. I mean, if you're Gee and working for a public university, and you did them wrong by opening your trap, would you say, hey, gimme millions? No, you'd be embarrassed and want to help the U recover from your dufus-ness, and just move on to some other institution of lesser repute* (*assuming there are any) and work another day. So what's with the huge payoff? What's he know he's not going to say now? Or am I a paranoid M man?
I'm disillusioned because tSOU gave Sweatervest hush money too. His buyout could be summarized thusly: "What's your price, Jim, for you to take the fall on Tatgate and let the program continue unabated... oh, that much... ok, here's a check for it." And it just feels like, Gee got the same deal, only with bigger numbers.
Or, truth be told, I'm actually like, wow where did I go wrong in life not to get Gee's gig.
The Golden Gophers seem to be similar to Northwestern: Minnesota returns a TON on offense- in fact they only seemed to have lost QB/WR/? Marquise Gray. They return everyone else including the entire 2-deep on the OL and even add a former 4* recruit & OSU transfer on the OL.
Defensively they lost half of their starters from a competent unit. Strength will be on the DL with weakness increasing toward the secondary.
Where the teams diverge is with QB, offensive competency and the schedule. Kill let go of Phil Nelson's RS in the last half of the season and he seemed to be a pleasant surprise for a true FR on an offense that was woeful. The schedule is VERY soft with a home date vs UNLV seemingly the toughest opponent in the OOC slate that features ZERO BCS teams.
Kill has has a very good track record in his 3rd years, but I don't see the defense holding on to last years respecable performance AND the offense becoming adequate-to-good. IMO, both of these would need to happen if Goldy wants to sit at the adult table in the division with MSU, NEB, NW and M.
Looks like another sweep in the OOC, in fact I see the Gophers swaggering into A2 5-0 with a big victory over the Hawkeyes the week before. Unfortunately reality sets in with 3 straight losses @M, @NW and Neb. They beat IU and PSU, but end with losses to Wisc and MSU.
Looks like 7-5 (3-5) and gradual progress for Goldy, bucking the huge 3rd year turnaround pattern Jerry Kill has shown in the past.
Pretty exciting time for these kids as they meet together tomorrow for the 1st time as a team. I am very excited about all these players as they begin to represent the maize & blue, but Derrick Green will be one that I will be anxious to hear reports on throughout camp. Here's to a great camp with minimal injuries for team134
