i refuse to even consider this a possibility
days until Team 134/2013 Michigan football takes the field against the chippewas of central for the first time since 2006.
There is no Michigan Man more notable than Gerald Ford (aka Gerry Ford, aka Mr. President) to wear the #48 for the Wolverines.
- two-time national champion (1932-1933)
- two time Western Conference Champion (1932-1933)
- 1934 recipient of the Michigan Most Valuable Player Award (predecessor to the Bo Schembechler MVP Award)
Off the field, well, do I really have to say it? Gerald Ford became the 38th president of these United States.
48 days comes at a convenient time. Why? Well Black and Blue, the documentary about Gerald Ford, Willis Ward and the 1934 Michigan-Georgia Tech game will be shown all across the state of Michigan on PBS at 5pm tomorrow!
Another reason is that today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Gerald Ford.
Last season, President Ford became the 4th player in program history to earn Michigan Football Legend designation.
And Desmond Morgan became the first (and current) Wolverine to don #48 since 1993 before it was taken out of circulation for retirement.
Happy 100, President Ford. American president and Michigan Football Legend.
I saw this discussed in another thread earlier this week, and I saw that the MLive guys talked more about this today. Now, I will not post the link because A) they both took the under and B) I know how much you guys don't really like MLive. Back on topic, though. I feel like the topic needed a little more attention than it got. Plus, the blog has been rather quiet today, so I thought I would spark a little evening conversation.
So the big question is, do you guys think that Michigan will reach the double digit mark for wins this football regular season? Personally, just looking at the schedule, I don't think there should be a doubt that this team should get to 10 wins. As I think about it a little more, though, we have a brand new offensive line, and once again I think we are one injury away on the offensive line from having depth issues... So I thought I would enlist the blog to help with one of the most important and most speculative questions of the season.
I finally got some time to play NCAA 14 after a crazy week at work. Does anyone have suggestions for the best roster download so far?
Also, I pre-ordered the game from Best Buy, so I received an email with the code for the free download of the B1G Ultimate Team. However, every time I try to enter the redemption code it says it is not in the right format. The code is only 16 digits, and the XBOX says it needs to be 25. Any suggestions? I'm sure I am just missing something really obvious.
From BTN's Tom Dienhart at B1G Officials Conference today: hits above the shoulders will result in automatic ejection. The only way I see this working is if the officials are allowed to review replay. Really hard to make these calls in real time, especially in situations where the ballcarrier ducks or slides at the last second. Replay official could have an even more significant role in the game. Not sure what he means by "conclusive evidence" to overturn. And if it is overturned, does the penalty flag get picked up?
If a player is flagged for delivering a blow above the shoulders in 2013, #B1G officials coordinator Bill Carollo says he will be ejected.
Per rule language, the only way for a player to avoid ejection for a high hit is if replay official has conclusive evidence to the contrary.
@DesmondHoward isn't a big fan of the new targeting rule. And this is coming from an offensive player.
Message is clear at #B1G officials clinic: If there is ANY doubt in a ref's mind that a player was targeted for a hit, flag will be tossed.
Officials are being shown a series of hard hits and asked to vote if hit is foul and targeting. I'll just say this: get ready for ejections.
This is apparent: #B1G office does NOT want to have to make decisions on suspensions on Mondays. Wants it done on Saturdays by referees.
