“He was on the other side of the court, screaming: ‘Good shot, Kev!’” Durant said, shaking his head in delight. “I’m thinking, this guy’s an All-American type of teammate right there.”
In the wake of yesterday's fiasco, we've obviously heard from Coach Hoke. However, we've not heard from Dave Brandon. I didn't expect him to necessarily hold a press conference, but I did expect him to release a statement.
While most are calling for a press conference to announce the firing of Hoke on Monday - which I would not be against - what are the chances we get a statement/release from Brandon on Monday to address the issue with Morris' playing while visibly injured?
I personally do not expect anything on Monday, but I do expect the silence to reach "deafening" proportions by weeks end and Brandon will have to take to the podium or at least grant an interview with a loal journalist. Especially as more local journalists criticize Hoke's player management and safety.
So let's assume that Brandon has gone into full CYA mode and the administration has finally had enough of the Hoke regime's incompetence. Assuming that Michigan wanted to give him his walking papers on Monday, how would the logistics even work? It's obvious after the Morris situation that Hoke is done, but will Michigan's culture prevent a Kiffin-ing / Weis-ing of Hoke?
I'm assuming Hoke would be notified first, then his staff, the AD, and the players. But if there's no interim replacement waiting in the wings, can you realistically announce to the public that he's out? You don't want a power vacuum to develop in the absence of leadership, although if the reports of offense v. defense in the locker room are true, it already seems like there's borderline anarchy in the first place.
Do you start negotiating with other college coaches / NFL assistants behind the scenes while the interim guy does his thing? And what role do the Regents play? Are they really going to let Dave Brandon torpedo another coaching search? Even if he does find a top-tier candidate, what elite coach is going to want Brandon in the film room with him looking over his shoulder?
Basically, I'm confused on how the timing of a Monday dismissal would work. Personally, I think it should happen regardless of the logistics, but I was wondering if anyone closer to the program than I could provide any insight on how it would actually go down.
49ers so far have allowed an INT for a TD and a blocked punt for a TD. The more they lose the better.
So, I'm not really a big drinker, so I can't cope with my feelings of sadness and disappointment (some might say ennui) as others do; the board is also very full of sadness and we need some fun. In my house last night we were binging on Halloween candy and pouring hot fudge sauce on normally healthy snacks. This is going to be a rough season on the waist line. I hate you! But I can't quit you!
EDIT: I see that the Athletic Department has put out a note to counter my argument below. Rather than squelch the issue it has fanned the flames. Hoke needs to go.
I have to credit Drew Hallet's article for the exact Hoke quote after 2013 Michigan - O$U wherein Hoke said re: Devin's injury:
"You know, [Gardner is] beat up like everybody is, and that's when he was limping a little bit, and I said I don't want to see you limp. I said every guy out here could limp. We've got to go play, and he did that. I'm proud of him." [Note: bold emphasis Hallet's]
The point of the this post:
1. Yesterday's treatment of re: Shane's injury and Hoke pleading the 5th is inexcusable
2. Keeping an injured Funchess in the game against opponents was very concerning to folks
3. Knowing what we know re Devin's health post-2013 O$U was there a desire to play Devin thinking that "eh, maybe he can play..."
The injury pattern is becoming very concerning and yesterday was the final piece of the puzzle as to questionale decisions to play guys hurt and this decision making needs to stop.
Hoke needs to go.
Brandon has ZERO deniability given the well publicized reports that he is very active in film sessions, meetings, etc.
Clean house and protect our men.
What are the steps for Cockran to be suspended by the B1G?
I remember in the RR era the Purdue coach introducing his player who he beleived was suspended because of RR sending in video.
Is that what needs to happen? Does UofM need to send in the video to get the suspension?
Does the B1G review automatically?
To me it looked like a pretty obvious head shot / leading with your helmet / targeting.
Not sure what the steps are - anyone who can help. THANKS!
