The twitterverse is reporting that Christian LaCouture has committed in a bit of a surprise to Nebraska today. Most people had been reporting he had been down to LSU and Michigan with Nebraska running third.
Thought this deserved its own thread. 6 of Michigan's commits attended the Columbus NFTC and 4 of them walked away with invites to the Opening: Taco Charlton, Shane Morris, Mike McCray, David Dawson.
McCray was the LB MVP, Dawson was the OL MVP, and Morris was the Elite11 MVP yesterday.
Pretty solid weekend for the class of 2013. Best summary of the day provided by former Ohio All-American OL LeCharles Bentley:
Pretty obvious that Shane would be named top performer condidering he won camp MVP, but this gives a little more on his and the others' performances. I found it a little odd that Zaire was listed so far down considering Tom VH and others were tweeting that Zaire was nippin at Shane's heels for most of the day. The article also mentions that this was the best group of talent at any Elite 11 regionals yet, so congrats to Shane for getting through against this group.
1. Shane Morris, Warren (Mich.) De La Salle – Good luck trying to pin a fear of competing on Shane Morris. Despite his lofty ranking and his early commitment to Michigan, Morris is at seemingly every event he can get to, eager to prove himself. On Friday he did just. He can put loads of velocity on the ball without digging deep, he showed great accuracy throughout the day and he has a smooth and natural composure in the pocket. Morris’ performance earned him an invite to the Elite 11 finals this summer.
Several of Michigan's 2013 commits are participating in the Columbus Nike NFTC camp this morning. Reported that Shane Morris (on the heels of his Elite11 Columbus regional MVP yesterday), David Dawson, Jourdan Lewis (EDIT: Lewis did not make it), Khalid Hill, Logan Tuley-Tillman, Taco Charlton, and Mike McCray will be competing against some of the Midwest's best prospects. The best performers receive invitations to the national competition, The Opening, later this summer. Should be interesting to see how MIchigan's commits stack up against Ohio's and others in the B1G.
Several reporters from the various recruiting sites will be covering the event.
