Tennessee is not recruiting well just because they got 18 dudes
The Wall Street Journal has a very interesting article up that details how Seattle's defensive backs become elite.
The strategy is simple: test the referees early and find where the line is drawn. Begin mugging the wrs and there's no way a ref will call a penalty on every play.
Could this strategy work in the NCAA?
Edit: Do you think this strategy will translate to all other teams?
A little mgoblue.com video action of Doug Nussmeier touring the facilities with a couple of player cameos from Gardner, Funchess, Ryan and what looks like Hagerup in Glick Fieldhouse. Usually Karsch finishes these sort of videos but instead we have Eli Zaret. Enjoy!
Nussmeier will not make more than Mattison, Brandon said.
“We put together a package for Doug that’s consistent with what we’ve done at Michigan,” said Brandon, adding they have not yet signed a contract.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10273908/acc-commissioner-john-swofford-favors-title-game-qualifying-redoIf NCAA legislation was adopted to modify the current restrictions there might not be a B1G East or West division or an ACC Coastal and Atlantic. Of course the conferences would have to adapt this strategy but, John Swofford of the ACC is already for it. He is stating greater scheduling flexibility and autonomy. How would a fair schedule be devised with 14 teams over the years? Is this a ploy to get multiple teams from your conference in the playoffs? I wonder how many conference Commissioners are in favor?
Nuss pretty much stated it flat out in the conference. "Heck, Daryl, Dan and Fred" mentioned specifically as being a "great staff". They get one year to prove themsleves. I am going to go ahead and guess there isnt going to be a harder working coach than Funk this year.
MOD EDIT: I will leave the OP to edit the body of this, but yeah, the title was misleading as nothing definitive was said regarding this. He said something more to the effect that he was excited to work with the current staff, but whether that staff remains current once he gets going as OC is another matter. - LSA
UF got a commitment from 4 star RB Brandon Powell today. He is from Denard's backyard in Deerfield Beach. This could help Michigan's chances with UA Game MVP RB Jeff Jones who is visiting in a couple of weeks.
