In regards to depth chart, the offensive line is one of the most interesting position groups for 2013. I'm not sure if the conventional thinking regarding the offensive line is on target. Specifically, that Scholfield is a lock at right tackle.
I had the chance to speak with Scholfield's father in Tampa at the Outback Bowl, and I am convinced that he thinks that guard is his son's best position and certainly where his NFL future lies. Clearly, the line was better with him at guard in 2011 than tackle in 2012, regardless of the other multiple variables. I think he might be the best guard on the team in 2013.
Prediction of 2013 OL left to right: Lewan, Schofield, Kalis, Bryant, Braden.
I think the ceiling for this group might be very high.
ED: bryant not barnum-- too many Bs with braden barnum burzynski and bryant
Title pretty much says it all, but apparently WIlton will not be participating in the Rivals Camp Series. He was invited, but turned it down per Rivals message board - Tim Sullivan
I've never seen a kid invited to show his talents/compete and turn it down, but he has his reasons.
I am not sure if that means he won't be doing the All-Star games too or what.
Tim says it may be because he learned a little something about getting burned out (sick) from Shane.
I don't know how many of you have had a chance to watch video of Chesapeake (VA) Oscar Smith defensive tackle Andrew Brown, but it's pretty impressive. He's one of the top few defensive tackles in the 2014 class, if not the best. Michigan is on a long list of early favorites, but obviously there's a long way to go in his recruitment. Anyway, this week's scouting report is on Brown, who would fit really well at 3-tech for Michigan.
According to the michigan board on espn, oklahoma is pursuing jerry montgomery to fill their vacant defensive line coaching spot. Although going from Michigan to Oklahoma to take the same position seems like a step down, I could definitely see Montgomery taking an offer from Oklahoma considering Michigan basically has two other defensive line coaches with Hoke and Mattison. Going to Oklahoma would allow him to independently coach his own position group, and would likely come with a pay raise. If Dave Brandon is smart, he will counter an Oklahoma offer and lock up Montgomery, whom I believe is next in line for defensive coordinator when Mattison retires. Thoughts?
Per Salon, the Florida Atlantic Owls grant naming rights to the GEO Group, a for-profit prison company, for a $6 million donation. The company has faced numerous lawsuits in relation to the deaths of up to ten prisoners.
“It’s like calling something Blackwater Stadium,” Bob Libal, the executive director of Grassroots Leadership, a social justice group that opposes private prison systems, told the Times. “This is a company whose record is marred by human rights abuses, by lawsuits, by unnecessary deaths of people in their custody and a whole series of incidents that really draw into question their ability to successfully manage a prison facility."
It's being called "Owlcatraz." Makes the Trohl Center look good.
As per ESPN Insider Quin Blanding is going to make his decision on Feb 27. The choice will be among his top 10 schools (Michigan being one of them).
Since he hasn't visited yet, I don't think bodes well for the good guys.
