Mount St. Mary's hired a private equity CEO to be their president. You'll never guess what happened next.
Has anyone heard if he will be back for the Ohio game this weekend or if he is going to be redshirted? Last thing I heard was last week and they were saying he could be ready by the Purdue game (which obviously didn't happen).
We could really use him on Sunday to help distribute the amount of fouls it's going to take to limit Jared Sullinger
John Beilein announced that Eso Akunne will be out 6-8 weeks and requires foot surgery. This hurts especially on our scout team, and with Stu starting Eso might have been playing a few minutes at point guard to give Trey rest.
I wasn't over there trolling (I don't do that), but just checking to see if they had any info on Reeves (they don't have anything new).
Then I saw the poll on the right side of the screen - surprisingly the vote was 53-47% (Scott) when I there a minute ago. However, I'm sure the MGoCommunity could bump up TB's %.
According to sources, Tool's drummer Danny Carey sported a Zack Novak jersey while performing with the band in Toledo on Tuesday. Nice to see Tool supporting the Michigan basketball team! and in Ohio nonetheless! People on toolshed.down.net are commenting on this.
Also, according to a paywalled Scout.com article (I do not have membership), Novak tweeted to Danny Carey thanking him for donning his jersey.
Anyone have pictures or links?
There is an awesome interview with Burke over at umhoops. (LINK: http://www.umhoops.com/2012/01/25/audio-quotes-trey-burke-talks-ohio-state-jared-sullinger-more/#more-25022)
Here are a few highlights. You really need to go over and read this yourself. We are very fortunate that Burke is at Michigan. Certainly, Beilein is a great basketball teacher, but his ability to identify talent early is critical. How many guys has Beilein been tuned in to early? Hardaway, Morris, McGary, Burke, Robinson, the list goes on and on. Now that we are at this level of success, and only getting better, the recruits will continue to come. The future is so very bright.
I have quoted way too much, but this is an excellent interview, just go to the link. Mods: feel free to cut out half of the blockquote. I couldn't choose, because I find the whole thing interesting, speaking well to Burke, and to our good fortune in his being at Michigan.
How do you approach this game? Like any other game or something your looking forward to…
“It’s a game that I’m definitely looking forward to. We’re tied for first at the top of the conference with Ohio State so it would definitely be a big win. Just to have the opportunity to go back home and play in Columbus and play in front of a lot of my supporters.
On communicating with Jared [Sullinger] and J.D [Witherspoon]…
“I have communicated briefly with Jared, and with J.D. over Facebook, over the last couple of weeks through text. . . . One thing he did say was that our parents were probably going to cry seeing us on the court playing against each other for the first time.”
How many games have you played together? (edit: with Sullinger)
“Playing together, probably over a thousand games . . . We’ve probably played about three games against each other. Just in practice. We never played against each other in a basketball game.”
How did you not end up at Ohio State?
“My sophomore year I had committed to Penn State, kind of early. I did want to go to Ohio State, it was my hometown school and things like that. Once Jared committed there and they recruited JD, I started to like them more and more. They weren’t really recruiting me like that. . . . He was just recruiting other players. I kind of knew that the coaching staff wasn’t as interested in me as I wanted them to be. Once I got to Michigan, I saw that was the best decision for me and I took it. It is what it is.”
On controlling emotions…
“It’s going to be really important for me to control my emotions out there. I can’t get caught up in one-on-one match-ups and I just need to make plays for the team. . . . there’s a couple times we let the crowd get the best of us but we’ve been working on that.”
When did you know you could be a high level player in college ball..
“At the beginning of this year. I had to gain confidence to actually feel like I could succeed at this level. The more I was out there on the court this year . . . the more I gained confidence with myself.”
I went back and looked at all of Dylan's previews, noting the Pomeroy predictions for each Big Ten game. They predicted:
Michigan by 11 over PSU(check)
Michigan by 4 over Minnesota(check)
Indiana by 12 over Michigan(check)
Wisconsin by 7 over Michigan(nope...79% chance of badger win)
Michigan by 5 over Northwestern(check)
Michigan by 4 over Iowa(nope)
MSU by 4 over Michigan(nope)
Purdue by 4 over Michigan(nope)
You might as well flip a coin.
If you look at the actual scores, they're all over the place, ranging from Wisconsin(underpredicted by 25 pts) to Iowa (overpredicted by 20) you come up with Pomeroy underestimating Michigan by about 3.5 points/game. (I expected a larger number too, but that Iowa game really knocked the average down).
