he grew a beard
If you have a few minutes, check out this story I came across on mlive about Beilein's journey from a trench digger to UM's basketball coach. Great read.
This kid is incredible.
I don't know how to embed from BTN, so here's the link.
Just in case anyone missed it, Austin Hatch was Scott Van Pelt's Star of the Night on SC tonight. I don't know how to embed from an ESPN website, can someone please embed. This might have been mentioned or posted on another thread, but I think recognition for this young man's heart and perseverance deserves its own. Go Austin and Go Blue!
At the game in Crisler. Austin Hatch just checked into the game. The bench stood up in anticipation every time Austin touched the ball. With less than a minute left Austin got fouled and missed his first free throw. After a deep breath and a second with his eyes closed, Austin put the ball straight through the rim, nothing but net.
It's unbelievable to think that just 3 short years after surviving his 2nd plane crash, after relearning how to breathe, eat, and walk, Austin has scored in a Division 1 basketball game. Amazing credit to Austin as a person and credit to John Beilein for giving him the opportunity. Go Blue
Anyone have a site where I can find tonight's game?
Per a nice UMHoops write-up, John Beilein is looking at 2015 forward Moritz Wagner out of Berlin. Beilein actually took a special trip to Germany to visit and watch him play. Wagner came up through Alba Berlin's youth development program but has yet to sign a professional contract.
According to Dylan, UConn and Duke have both been in touch.
As a reminder, UM currently has zero players committed for the 2015 class and is only recruiting a few 2015 guys - PJ Dozier (set to announce his decision Wednesday), Caleb Swanigan (extreme long shot who doesn't appear interested), and 5* Jaylen Brown (may take official visit but also an extreme long shot).
