here's one vote for "John Beilein's head in a Futurama jar"
Wisconsin just got ambushed in Ann Arbor. It was like there were 5 Novaks on the court at all times today. These boys have a legit shot at winning the BIG. I was beyond impressed with the effort on the court.
Belien was beaming in his post game interview on CBS, he always accentuates the positive, but he was downright giddy today
Stu: 5 steals and was all over the court today
Trey: outplayed and outhustled an All American
Jordan Morgan: where did this whirling dirvish come from, since the 2nd half of the IU game he been Charley Hustle
THJ: Doesn't need to hit 3's to dominate. Relentless effort and outstanding athleticism are lethal
Novak: This guy is beyond description, I know I wouldn't want to play against his psychotic ass
Smot: Stuck his nose in the middle of everything today and battled like the rest.
Vogrich: I feel for the kid, he has elevated his overall game, but is a bit behind these other guys with their improvement. Minutes are going to be tough to come by with Novak and Stu on a mission to have a fantastic senior campaign.
I love beating ohio in anything but this is unbelievable. This is the third straight time the Michigan women have beaten ohio. The best part of it? ohio brought about 50-100 fans it looked like on TV, to see them lose and have their 15-0 record go to 15-1, against the school they hate the most.
Good for the program. They've historically have not been very successful but this is certainly something to build on that they have a national powers number.
Hopefully they can win something soon and get a banner up in Crisler Center. Go Blue!
Okay - my wife really wants to know this. For every home game she has been to (3 over Christmas break) there has been a woman behind the Michigan bench, in the student section, that every player hugs as they walk by. She looks like she is someone's mom.
Anyone know who she is?
Michigan invades Assembly Hall tonight, tip off at 9:06.
Dylan has a preview here: http://www.umhoops.com/2012/01/05/game-15-michigan-at-indiana-preview-2/
The takeaway: Indiana is the best three-point shooting team in the country, and they rarely turn the ball over. The line is Indiana-8 and Pomeroy favors them by 12(14% chance to upset). He says that if Michigan is going to pull it off they need to get to the foul line, hit their threes, and Hardaway is going to have to go HAM.
Some idiot on the board wrote a half-arsed preview here http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/michigan-basketball-13-coaches-poll
The takeaway being that the OP ate a lot of paint chips as a kid
Beilein talks about Indiana here http://www.umhoops.com/2012/01/04/audio-notes-quotes-john-beilein-previews-indiana-updates-horford-injury/
The takeaway being that Indiana is ridiculous from downtown, and Zeller is a freak in the post. If Indiana gets ahead, we're probably toast. Defense will be able to set up better if Michigan is scoring baskets offensively.
"Inside the Hall" previews the game here http://www.insidethehall.com/
The takeaway being WOO Smotrycz for 3, Michigan has a lethal offense, but can UM defend from downtown...so far not so much.
Holy crap, temple beat Duke? What the heck? What was I saying? Oh yeah, ESPN previews the game here http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/preview?gameId=320050084
The takeaway being its been over a decade since these teams were both good at the same time, and Tom Crean is only somewhat less annoying in quotation than he is on camera.
Basically, if Zeller has an off night we have a shot. But when Zeller is on, heck when he is on the court-Indiana doesn't have a lot of weaknesses.
Michigan is up to #13 in the coaches poll, and will play at #12 Indiana on Thursday.
Freshman Cody Zeller(Tyler and Luke's baby brother and Trey's biggest competitor for B1G Freshman of the Year), Indiana's leading scorer and rebounder, looks to be the key to this game.
In Indiana's only loss, Zeller suffered early foul trouble and only played a hair over 20 minutes. Indiana has the best three-point percentage (.450) in the country, and its three top producers behind the arc — Jordan Hulls, Christian Watford and Matt Roth — are shooting 50 percent or better. … Sixth man Will Sheehey has a sprained ankle and hasn't practiced. Unfortunately Michigan's greatest obstacle, the dreaded Assembly Hall officiating crew, WILL be in attendance for Thursday's game.
To come away with a victory, Smotrycz and Hardaway will have to recapture the magic they have shown in long stretches of their Michigan careers. Morgan and Smotrycz will have to scrap for those rebounds like they did against Minnesota, and those two will have to stay out of foul trouble. Again, no easy task in Assembly Hall. But no one said it was going to be easy, as 'Sheed used to say, "It's just going to take a dog with some heart".
I know they've got it in 'em...Go Blue.
Everybody is talking a lot about Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III, so Nic Stauskus isn't quite getting a lot of attenion. However, I think he really might surprise a lot of people. I really like his game. Seems like he has the potential to be more offensively 2-dimensional (dribbling and shooting vs just shooting) as a freshman that Zach or Stu were.
