this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines
Sam Webb on Tyus Battle: He hasn't necessarily decommitted, but he is taking visits; distance is a factor for him; more
Sam said the following on WTKA this morning:
He's not certain that Tyus Battle called Michigan and said he's decommitted. Sam admitted this might be semantics, though, because Battle is taking visits (Sam mentioned UConn on twitter in addition to Syracuse).
Sam's opinion (just an opinion) is that Battle committed to Michigan when he did in part to make sure Josh Langford (whom Battle knows) didn't take his spot. Battle also really loved Michigan when he visited.
Distance from home is a factor for Battle, thus helping Syracuse.
Michigan never totally stopped recruiting Josh Lanford. And they called him after the news of Battle's visits.
Langford once seemed on the verge of committing to Michigan, but MSU appears to be his leader now. Sam also mentioned Arizona as being in the mix. Langford appears not to have committed to MSU over the weekend as some thought might happen. Langford is now the in fold for MSU. See the thread above this one.
Sam isn't sure if Battle will commit to Syracuse soon. It sounds like Sam has not been in touch with the Battle family recently.
My own thoughts:
The good news is that both Battle and Langford are still in play. The bad news, as you've no doubt realized, is that the Battle commitment may have cost Michigan Langford. This is fast becoming a very unfortunate situation.
Sam said this on WTKA this morning. He said he does not think Battle is waivering and that he would only be doing his due diligence
(assuming he does visit Syracuse), so to speak. Sam also suggested that the visit would be is motivated by people around Battle having encouraged him to make sure that Michigan is the right choice.
I know this might be a futile thought, but I highly recommend not panicking about this. FWIW, Sam didn't seem too worried. He mentioned that Syracuse's big pitch to Battle has been that he could be a PG, which doesn't seem realistic...EDIT/my own thought: Syracuse is also facing NCAA sanctions (loss of scholarships/probation).
If this raccoon can stand on this aligator (picture posted on the board earlier this week), you can not panic about this. Be like the raccoon, my friends.
EDIT: See posts below in which Evan Daniels says Battle has re-opened his recruitment. So things are worse than they seemed earlier this morning, though I still encourge you to remember our aligator riding friend.
Will Michigan re-open its pursuit of Josh Langford? He could swing down to AA after visting MSU.
Not to be outdone by Sauce Castillo, our own Mitch McGary adopted 3 snakes: Zoe, Zeus, and Layla. He is now calling himself "The Snake God," because why not?

2016 4 Star SF out of Columbus, OH Seth Towns just commited to Harvard to play under former Michigan coach Tommy Amaker.
Towns is the 117 composite player according to 247. At one point he was a top 60 player in his class according to ESPN, and although he's still a 4 star on ESPN, he's no longer in the top 100 list .
Towns had offers from Michigan and OSU, and was long thought to be a candidate to join the 2016 class for Michigan. There was a lot of buzz about him and Michigan early in his recruitment but that slowed down heavily in the past year or so. With the amount of big men Michigan has gotten recently, I'm sure that has something to do with it.
Still, this is a nice get for Harvard. There as one crystal ball on 247 predicting him to Harvard, with the majority predicting him to go to OSU.
I know there was some discussion the other day about the Cavs flashing the Block M up on the scoreboard to get fans to boo (they do). Well I wanted people here to know that not all people in attendance boo when they see the famed block M and I have proof.
Last Thursday as I was heading in I saw a familiar face from college and yelled out "Phil". Sure enough, the great Phil Hubbard was next to me and I had a chance to talk to him for a bit as we walked in and even got him to join me in a "GO BLUE" cheer which I'm sure stunned the people around us.
And FWIW my Cavs arent dead yet. I predicted Cavs in 7 before it started and I'm sticking with it. We're going to win tomorrow night and then again on Friday. And yes, you can
reback raback it!
Might as well start this. I've enjoyed the last few game threads. Seems to be several people on here following this great series.
Don't think it's a bold statement to say that the winner of this game likely takes the series.
