The first post-season basketball championship of any kind won by U-M was the 1984 NIT. Here's a video of the entire final game against Notre Dame. The video quality is poor, but for those of us who remember that era, it's still priceless.
A couple things I remember:
- So many great names on this team: Tim McCormick, Roy Tarpley, Antoine Joubert, Eric Turner, Richard Rellford...
- For unknown reasons, they used a red-white-and-blue basketball in the NIT this year, like the old ABA.
An NIT championship is like kissing your sister, but damn, this whole ride was fun 31 years ago.
So, it's either win the B1G Tournament (lol) or the NIT.
No sub .500 team has ever been in the NIT. The .500 rule no longer exists.
Michigan will have a shot at the NIT if they go 2-2 in the final regular season games and win a B1G Tournament Second Round game to finish 16-16.
I really don't care for the choice, but Beilein declined a CBI bid in 2010 and the 2010-11 team exceeded expectations by a mile so...
Nicole Elmblad scored a bucket as the clock expired to push the WBB game in Minneapolis into overtime tied at 69. Let's hope the result is better than recent MBB overtime games.
Update - now in 2OT tied at 80
Rivalry games that will only happen once next basketball season.
Michigan at Ohio State
Michigan vs Indiana
Michigan vs MSU
Purdue at Indiana
Iowa at Minnesota
Wisconsin at Iowa
Nebraska at Iowa
Minnesota at Wisconsin
Illinois at Northwestern
Penn State at Rutgers*
Penn State at Maryland*
*The last two are extra funny because BTN tried so hard to make a huge deal of the non-existent RU and PSU rivalry during football season. Same goes for Maryland.
does this seem wrong to anybody else?
Okay, so I put together a quick little chart of everyones Offensive Rating (kenpom) since the Levert injury. Some games some players did not register enough PT to create an ORtg, so those are marked by the dashes. I included those games in their average still, because they did play. So the average my not be 100% accurate, but you get the gist of it.
