Michigan has made the postseason for the 6th consecutive year--a program record. This is Michigan's second straight WNIT appearance and their first automatic bid since 2011.
Michigan (16-14, 8-10 B1G) will face Cleveland State (19-12, 10-6 Horizon League) on Wednesday at Crisler Center. Game time will be announced tomorrow and the game will broadcast on BTN Plus, most likely.
Michigan and Cleveland State have several common opponents.
Michigan blew out Detroit in the second half back in their season opener, 76-57, while CSU won a close one 71-65 and got run at Detroit, 78-65.
Cleveland State lost to EMU on the road by 3, while Michigan demolished EMU, 81-52.
EDIT: The WNIT bracket was supposed to be officially released at 11:30, but they leaked it accidentally. Should Michigan beat Cleveland State, they will get the winner of Toledo-Wright State.
Poor CBI. Nobody wants to play in the thing.
These teams all declined bids last night: Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Tennessee, Memphis, Oregon State, Cal.
The CBI field is brutal. The only major conference team is Colorado, and one of their seniors literally quit the team because he didn't want to play in the CBI.
Who does that? Who just says "yeah......I'll take a pass on that one. See ya, guys. It was a fun 4 years" before postseason play?
The two teams that in large part defined this basketball season for us are both in the post-season. NJIT hosts New Hampshire tonight in the CIT. This is NJIT's first post-season tournament ever:
The rest of the 32-team field is filled with half the MAC (WMU, Bowling Green, Kent State) and no P5 teams.
EMU, meanwhile, is in the 16-team CBI. They play at Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday. Colorado is the only P5 team in the field.
What the hell - I'm rooting for both of them.
Curious as to what guys the MGoCommunity uses to handicap their brackets. I usually take a look at a few sharps on twitter, KenPom, 538.com, and the WSJ blind tourney pick 'em. Always looking for new sources of info. Thanks in advance.
