mesmerism! presidential assassinations! circuses on fire!
Like most everyone with a clue (except for me, ask my wife), I don't see Phil Jackson returning to coach; he has nothing left to prove, and the Pistons are not the type of team Phil usually coaches. In that they are not ready for prime time if you will, and don't have anything resembling the pieces for a triangle offense. That being said, however, I think the probability of Gores giving Jackson full front ofice control are somewhat good. How would Jackson do as a front office guy? I really have no clue, but I'd pay an awful lot of money to find out. Also, like others, I don't know a great deal about Gores, save that he and Phill have a great relationship, and he doesn't like losing. The man put a playoff mandate on a team that would have been far better served rebuilding, so his desire to win, and win now is great. Couple this with the fact that it was Gores's decision to fire Cheeks, and replacing him with a person who has little chance of winning the job next season, and you get a situation where he has clearly lost faith in Dumars. Not letting Dumars hire a legit guy like Hollins or Karl shows the writing is on the wall, and that Dumars's days are numbered.
At this point, why not Phil?
This hurts Michigan's strength of schedule a little. Iowa also lost to Iowa St.
edit: down 93-63 right now...
A week and a half ago, I posted about 4* 2015 G/SF Matt McQuaid out of Texas. In that thread, MGoUser Wee-Bey Brice pointed out that one of McQuaid's teammates on AAU Team Texas was even more highly regarded. Well, Grandstaff decommitted from Okie State a few days ago, and the UM coaches wasted no time in reaching out to his dad. Visits for Grandstaff won't happen until the season is over, according to Rivals, but it wouldn't be surprising if both he and McQuaid made a trip to Ann Arbor.
Grandstaff is rated as the #32 player in the class of 2015. His game looks somewhat similar to McQuaid's, as does his size. Both are around 6'4"/6'5", lights-out shooters, and have great court vision. However, Grandstaff seems to handle the ball a bit better and likes to attack the basket more. From the looks of it, I'd bet McQuaid ends up being a bit taller than Grandstaff and plays some 2 and 3 in college, whereas Grandstaff sticks at the 2.
I felt it was important to update my weekly Big Ten rankings.
- Michigan State
- Ohio State
- Penn State
Don't be fooled into thinking this is somehow a response to the handful of superstitious yahoos who blame my previous rankings for the Iowa debacle. I just felt it would be useful information. The fact that the rankings are in COMPLETE AND TOTAL AGREEMENT WITH KENPOM is sheer coincidence.
Go back about your business.
Was working on my basketball records today and noticed a strange change in the Michigan record books on MGoBlue.
Before, the only things taken away were wins. There were *s next to the losses, but the NCAA-adjusted season record was 0-5 instead of 31-5 for 1992-93.
Now, the 1992-93 season as well as other vacated statistics are completely ignored. The 1992-93 record is listed as 0-0.
Has there been a rule change in the way the NCAA goes about vacating games?
