So, as I said I would the other day, I emailed MDen to ask why there was the big jersey sale.
My original theory was that Adidas is transitioning Michigan over to actual Maize so they need to push the highlighter-numbered jerseys out for the actual Maize ones incoming.
I based this off of the 2015 gear featuring actual Maize as opposed to the Adidas highlighter style. Here is one of several examples
Well, that turned out not to be the case.
Response from MDen I just received
Here are the reasons for the jersey sale.
1. We put stuff on sale all the time to move out old inventory to make room for new merchandise for 2015. This year, basketball and Hockey are both getting new Uniforms so a few more styles to liquidate than most years. This is nothing more complicated than that.
2. It is also the case that for 2015 only 2 numbers will be available for Football jerseys - #1 and #4. This also plays a role in our moving out old inventory of other numbers.
So there you have it. Those are the reasons for this massive jersey sale.
Basketball will be getting new uniforms by Adidas and Hockey will be getting their SIXTH different uniform in the last 6 years.
Here's a recent highlight video of Austin Davis in AAU circuit. Looks to be a very polished post scorer with drop step, up and under, hook, turnaround, etc. His stats in AAU are very encouraging considering that big guys rarely gets the ball.
Good day to be a Michigan Basketball fan.
Hibbitts, a 6-foot-8 shooter, averaged 17.3 points, 11 rebounds and 2.5 blocks and shot 48% from the floor as a senior. Hibbitts took recruiting visits to Vermont and American and chose the Wolverines over several mid-major offers from other schools.
In the wake of the wonderful basketball news this afternoon, I wanted to pose a crazy, speculative conspiracy theory to the board.
As most know by now Michigan is on Nike's campus right now, likely hearing a sales pitch to be our next apparel sponsor and possibly doing some negotiating.
As everyone definitely knows Tyus Battle, consensus 5-star wing, committed to play for Michigan Basketball this afternoon.
The other schools that were rumored to lead for Tyus, Duke and Syracuse, were Nike schools. So are UConn and OSU. The only other non-UM suitor that wasn't Nike was Lousiville who, while in the "top group" most people didn't talk about seriously in regards to landing Battle.
Battle's AAU team, Team Takeover, is Nike sponsored. Of the 8 recruits in the 2015 class who committed to a Division 1 program, 7 committed to a Nike school (6 pure Nike, 1 Jordan which is owned by Nike).
Does Tyus believe that we will also be a Nike school by the time he suits up in the Maize and Blue for the first time? Was he potentially given reason to believe this by someone in the program who might have an inclination?
Is there anything to this wild speculation? No.
But in a much larger sense...maybe.
Did I spend way too much effort on this post? Almost certainly.
With the commitment of 5-star SG Tyus Battle, Michigan currently has the top ranked recruiting class in the country. This class could potentially get even better if Cassius Winston commits to Michigan. But I thought Beilein couldn't recruit?
