“He was on the other side of the court, screaming: ‘Good shot, Kev!’” Durant said, shaking his head in delight. “I’m thinking, this guy’s an All-American type of teammate right there.”
Here are some thoughts on the first basketball game that counts:
1. I wish that they would find a way to hold off on pre-game events like banner raisings (not many such events recently I know) and senior sendoffs until the last possible moment. I realize that they have to do the player intros, national anthem etc., but I got to the game at 6:35 and felt like the banner went up immediately. The crowd was sparse when it did.
2. That said, because of the banner it was, eventually, a nice-sized crowd for a game against UMass-Lowell.
3. Derrick Walton seemed like a solid ball handler and defender. I realize that he's not a scorer, but I'd like to see him take a few more shots.
4. Levert was impressive.
5. Watching the backups come in at the end was weird. It felt like a TV show that recast all of its supporting actors. The only one I recognized was Bielfeldt. I kept thinking -- where's Person, Akunne and Bartelstein?
I really really like where Michigan is projected.
Anyone found or know of a good stream? I'm stuck on the couch with a bad back and would really like to watch this.
Mitch McGary has officially been ruled out for tomorrow (which any of you watching Oregon vs. Stanford know). This is not surprising to me or likely too many other people as he has not been consistently practicing & has suited up in a very different way in the exhibition games.
My question is: does anyone know his status? Aside from the immediate 'he won't play tomorrow' do we know what he is dealing with? As previously noted here (I forget by whom but perhaps Ace) he has a "back problem" or "issue" but I've not seen the word "injury". This concerns me for a more chronic condition that could cut into a significant part of this season. Or worse...(EDIT: I see now that posting guesses of an amateur athletes diagnosis is inappropriate. Sorry. This was not my intention with this thread. Thank you to LSA for a genuine response)
Obvious statement is obvious that we are a much different team with much different goals if he is a full go. So could anyone help shine light off the situation?
I of course hope for his sake & future as well as for this year's team that he is just dealing with some spasms or something & will be back soon.
Meta EDIT: & now the banner add to the left is from 'Lasik Spine Institute' : "Suffering from Spinal Stenosis?" <smh>
Club Trillion (Former OSU Walk-on Mark Titus) has written up his B1G Basketball preview.
He makes the case that the B1G is an Elite Bball conference despite the fact that the B1G hasn't won a National Title since 2000 (that was a clean block!)
He thinks McGary is over-hyped, GRIII is going to be the best pro, and Spike is awesome. His anti-Michigan bias comes through a bit, but in general it's a good read. I'm hoping that McGary can be tournament McGary for the year, but we'll see what happens moving forward.
My son and I are driving out from South Dakota for the football game on Saturday. We've decided to hit the basketball opener on Friday night just because we can.
My main question is about basketball tickets. Should we just walk up and buy them? Will there be people trying to sell them outside the arena? Should I just pick some up from Stubhub or buy some crappy seats off mgoblue.com?
I will take any additional wisdom on attending basketball games, but I'm mainly worried about tickets right now.
Thanks for the info.
