FWIW. Michigan doesn't seem inclined to get re-involved.
...the Aneurysm of Leadership happened.
It's hard to believe now how bleak things seemed at this point. We were 11-9 overall and 1-6 in B1G play entering that game. We had shown our potential occasionally (taking Kansas to OT, for instance), but didn't show any kind of consistency. Minnesota had just punked us in Crisler.
At that point, Beilein was 22-39 in B1G play in nearly 3.5 years, and while he'd surprisingly taken us to the NCAA tournament in his second year, he had posted two losing seasons out of three. At this point in late January, we seemed in danger of posting losing season #3. There was a lot of grumbling that Beilein's system couldn't make it in this conference.
Then the MSU game at Breslin.
Novak not only was a vocal leader that day but drained six threes and scored 19 points as we stunned MSU, 61-57. At the time, it seemed like it might just be another fluke good game, like the Kansas one earlier, but as it turned out, it started the ball rolling. Would it have happened if we'd lost to State that day? I don't know. At the least, we probably wouldn't have made the NCAA tournament in 2011.
From January 27, 2011 onward, Beilein and Michigan have gone 40-14 in B1G play, 80-27 overall, made the tournament every year, won a B1G championship, and made the national championship game. It's cool that we can pretty much pinpoint the day the turnaround started.
It's just one voter but I expect Michigan will end up in the top 10 in this weeks ranking when they are released later today. Michigan is currently Kenpom #8 and RPI #13.
*Edited RPI is #13 not #12
The Lakers and Knicks are going at it right now on ABC. Hardaway has 18 points and Manny harris has 16 I believe. Mike Tirico really pumping in the Michigan love. It's really good to see Manny have some success. Hopefully he gets another contract from the Lakers!
Im sure everyone wants to rewatch this game so here you go. Not to give away the result but i think u will enjoy it. GOBLUE!!!
Michigan Basketball picks up another win this weekend- this time a 60-44 road win against wisconsin getting the season sweep of the badgers.
After the tough 11 point home loss to ohio on Thursday night, it knocked Michigan out of 2nd place. But then, sparty laid an egg and now Michigan is tied with them for second place at 5-2 behind 1 loss, defending champ penn state.
Michigan will face PSU once this year--the regular season finale on the road.
This is the 3rd straight win against wisconsin in the series. Michigan Basketball has also swept Wisconsin at the Kohl Center this season on the hardwood in both men's AND women's.
It doesn't get any easier for the team as they will head to lincoln to face the current #21 team on Wednesday night.
