this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines
It is reported that Mitch will not participate in any physical activities prior to the draft. The latest ESPN draft has him going #26 to the Heat. What he may lose in terms of lower rookie salary, he could make it up by being on a winning team (better stats and endorsements). Of course, it would suck if James were to leave Heat.
Edit: Obvisouly, I mean for him going forward. It sucked for us, of course.
Can someone identify left to right?
ESPN Insider article on Embiid and how his foot injury impacts the draft. Relevant part is at the bottom where Ford lists the players invited to the green room for the draft. This is the first I've seen on what players were invited, and I know from some of Nik's interviews that he was hoping to be there. Very cool for him indeed. Assuming he accepts the invite, here's hoping for two straight years of seeing one of ours putting on a random NBA team's hat and holdling up a jersey. Here's my hope for his new uni...
While tracking down the Brady Hoke interview about Jabrill Peppers, I noticed a Nik Stauskas interview posted a couple of days ago. It's a little longer but it's worth viewing.
Great kid. The funniest thing is he doesn't have his driver's license yet. He said he needs to work on it but hasn't had time.
Nice story in the Detroit News about what Kameron Chatman is doing this summer. He will be in Ann Arbor next week for a summer session to prepare for the trip to Europe. He was roommates with D.J. Wilson for a camp in Sacramento and started building a bond to him.
The key part of the story is that he has bulked up to 211 lbs in anticipation of playing one of the forward spots and has already begun a workout regimen provided by Jon Sanderson.
EDIT: Never mind. Zagoria was wrong about Michigan offer. Mods delete if you want.
Canadian Point Guard Jamal Murray Racks Up Offers (UPDATED w/ no Michigan offer. Sorry for confusion) http://t.co/Z1zDpyndzS— Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria) June 17, 2014
Adam Zagoria reports that Michigan has put out 2016 offer #8 today: 6-5 point guard Jamal Murray, out of Toronto:
Ohio State, N.C. State, Michigan, Florida State and Virginia all offered the 2016 guard from CIA Bounce and Orangeville (Ontario) Athlete Institute. Illinois and Michigan State had previously offered.
The report also indicates that Michigan is not the only school Murray has unofficially visited (something that Sam Webb recently claimed), but that he's also visited Syracuse, Georgetown, and N.C. State.
He seems to be another target in no rush to make a decision:
He isn’t even on Twitter so he doesn’t follow much of the recruiting scene.
“I don’t like to put too much clutter in my brain,” he said. “I don’t need to know about that and also I don’t really like Twitter.”
247 composite has him as #28 in the 2016 class. Here's a highlight video:
