The season might be over for Kansas, Villanova and Virginia ... but NJIT is still alive. The Highlanders won their opening-round game in the CIT over New Hampshire, and they host Cleveland State tonight in the second round.
This is their first post-season tournament ever, of any kind, so screw it - this is the team I'm rooting for.
Kind of weird seeing Steve Fisher going up against Coach K again today. He might have done better if he had Jalen, Chris, Juwan, Jimmy and Ray. For the record, here’s what our four living ex-basketball coaches are up to:
STEVE FISHER: Took San Diego State to the NCAAs for the sixth straight year.
TOMMY AMAKER: Took Harvard to the NCAAs for the fourth straight year.
BILL FRIEDER: Doing radio color commentary during the NCAAs for Westwood One. Every time I’ve turned on a game this week, there he's been. He’s only 73 years old, which shocks me. I would have put him at about 90.
BRIAN ELLERBE: According to his LinkedIn profile, he’s the head of something called Ellerbe Research and Consulting LLC. He’s been out of coaching since 2013. He was an assistant coach at DePaul from 2010-2013, and before that, was an assistant at George Washington University from 2009-2010. He also worked in insurance. Has any former Big Ten coach ever had a greater fall into obscurity?
The Omaha World-Herald asked former Northern Iowa guard (and current Nebraska graduate assistant) Ali Farokhmanesh to pose as a reporter and interview Kansas fans in Omaha this weekend about their favorite and worst NCAA tournament memories.

Just a little table. Kind of interesting. Lots of entries this year. Obviously there is an overwhelming favorite taking with over 54% of people picking UK to take the title. This lead to only a handfull of teams picked to win it all.
Per various outlets, Michigan basketball assistant Jeff Meyer is in the mix for the Liberty University head coach position. He was the head man at LU for 16 years before being fired in 1997. It's probably worth noting that LU is a private Christian school and would probably be looking for an experienced coach who is also an Evangelical Christian (which Meyer is).
This would be a huge loss for Michigan. Aside from his coaching prowess, Meyer is the probably the best recruiter on Beilein's staff. He was the lead man on many of UM's highly rated recruits, including top 5 player Mitch McGary.
As a preemptive reminder - there is a no politics/religion rule.
