For the first time ever, Michigan Women's Basketball will play for a chance to hang their first banner in Crisler Center and win their first championship.
Michigan took on Villanova tonight in the WNIT Semifinals.
Michigan led for most of the game with Villanova going on a large run of 13-2 late to make the score look closer, but this one was never in any doubt.
Katelynn Flaherty didn't have a great game but Hallie Thome stepped up and had 22 points and was 10-16 from the field.
Michigan took it, 65-61.
Michigan moves on to the WNIT Championship for the first time ever.
The Wolverines (27-9) will take on Georgia Tech (22-14).
Michigan destroyed Georgia Tech by 40 back on 12/1 in the B1G/ACC Challenge. 92-52 at GT.
Being that Crisler Center is in use on Saturday and Michigan has earned the right to host, the WNIT Championship will be played at Calihan Hall on the campus of the University of Detroit.
The game will be on Saturday at 3pm and broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
Last night Maizen made a valient effort to overtake Mr Yost's spot atop Mout Negmore. Some of you may remember Yost's epic negbanging from a while back so I wanted to compare the two flameouts. (Sorry Yoster, couldn't resist).
|Total Negs||827 (holy fuck)||315|
|Highest Comment Neg||88||26|
Alas, he came up short but it wasn't for a lack of effort. Aint no one catching Yost.
Now Kentucky fans are irate with him:
But no matter how much he sucks it up and ruins games, he is back at the Final Four!! No amount of incompetence or ineptness will stop the NCAA from giving John Higgins the plum assignments.
(BTW I am NOT endorsing death threats towards refs. Just pointing out that clearly the NCAA doesn't care at all when refs biff up the biggest games. The only way bad refs stop getting big assignements is when they decide to retire.)
Brendan Quinn with a nice piece on Mo Bamba today. Not much new info regarding his thoughts on Michigan, but it's a good look into the type of person he is. It's interesting even if you think there's zero chance he comes here.
Seems like a different dude, in a really good way. He even somehow pulls off referring to himself in the third person.
Also: kudos to Quinn for doing yeoman's work on the basketball beat lately.
John Beilein was in-school today to visit a 6'4" guard, Jamal Bieniemy (2018). He is the #40 ranked shooting guard according to 247. Seems like he's in the mid-to-low 100's to most of the recruiting services.
Notable offers are from Texas A&M, Okie St, Creighton, and New Mexico. Offer sheet doesn't blow you out of the water, but I don't really care. I'd love to pair this kid with David DeJulius.
His build just screams that he's a late-bloomer like Levert and will continue to grow. It's been years since I watched Edmond Sumner's h.s. tape, but that may be a decent comparison. Looks like he could play point down the line since he has good change of direction in small spaces when pressured. Shows excellent vision in traffic. Obviously will need to put on weight, but so do most kids. Has good form on his jumper and can work on getting a quicker release.
