this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines
Middle of the week and the Tigers are putting the division away, so I figured this would acceptably fall into the "Infrequent Pro Sports" allowance.
Tigers score 5(!!!) runs on 6 hits all with two outs to start the game.
Currently 7.5 ahead of the Indians in the Central.
Only 5.5 behind the Red Sox for second best AL record... if the Tigers keep hitting they have a chance to catch the Red Sox which would allow them to
host Texas in the first round have home field advantage against the Sox in the first round. Tigers have an opponents winning % of .456 remaining and the Sox have an opponents winning % of .500. Not out of the question.
The home field advantage could be significant with the Sox' strong left-handed lineup.
Tigers vs. Royals @ 1:05
This is the finale of a 4-game set with the Royals, the Tigers are looking to take some momentum into their weekend series with Chicago.
The Tigers called up Jacob Turner to start today's game, giving Verlander an extra day of rest and enabling him to start off the series against the White Sox tomorrow. Remember a couple weeks ago when everyone was saying our series with the Indians was "the biggest of the year?" Well, I'm not going to say this weekend's series is the biggest, but it's definitely bigger than that series against the Indians. Hopefully we come out with the same end result.
At any rate, what are your thoughts about Jacob Turner starting? Do you think it was the right move? Are the Tigers hindering his development by moving him too fast, or is this a good thing? Also, for you White Sox fans out there, how are you feeling about this weekend's series? Both teams are playing pretty well lately, but are you confident heading into this weekend?
Currently 0-0 in the bottom of the 6th. FIster is pitching a great game, everyone needs to turn on their tvs and watch this game.
Chat it up, folks. The Tigers vs. Rays are underway for the finale of a 4-game series in Tampa. Detroit is going for the 3-1 series win, Tampa Bay is looking for the split. Fister is on the hill for us, and he's going up against Jeremy Hellickson.
Austin Jackson leads off the game with a homer! Nice way to start off the game.
Game 3 of the Tigers-Rays series tonight. Max Scherzer vs Wade Davis is tonight's pitching matchup. In other action, the Indians are facing the Mariners right now. It is 2-2 after 4 innings of play.
Alright so it's a slow Tuesday afternoon, the Tigers have game 2 against the Rays tonight, and the Indians are playing game 1 of a day/night doubleheader right now. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty excited about the fact that we could lose tonight and still increase our lead over the Indians (although they're currently winning 4-3 in the 9th... EDIT: Dang, Seattle takes the lead in the 9th, then Choo hits a walk-off, three-run homer for Cleveland. Oh well).
Some topics for discussion:
- Rick Porcello: do you think he can turn things around come October? Was July a fluke, or does he have what it takes to be a post-season contributor this year?
- Catcher depth: what should the Tigers do to get Avila some rest while Martinez's knee continues to heal? Is Avila a robot, thus making that question a moot point?
- AL Central title: for the Tigers fans, are you more worried about the Indians, or the ChiSox? For Sox and Indians fans, do you think either of your teams have what it takes to overcome a 5.5 game deficit?
