Sophomore southpaw Michael Hendrickson is making his first career start tonight.
Game 4 of the California road trip Michigan bounced back for a comfortable win over 10th ranked Cal.
The bats were swinging early for the Wolverines. Engelmann singled in his first career RBI in the second, followed by a Ramsay RBI single and a two run double from Lugbauer in the third.
The Wolverines would get an insurance run in the 9th. Wenson doubled with two outs and Lugbauer doubled him in on the next at-bat.
On the mound Oliver Jaskie was fantastic throwing 5 1/3, 6 K's and 3 hits allowed.
In relief Will Tribucher threw well before getting into a jam in the 7th, he handed over to Mac Lozer with two on and two out who finished the inning getting a ground out.
Benedetti closed easily. As a team the Wolverine pitching staff held Cal to an 0-19 night hitting with runners on base. 0-11 with runners in scoring position and 1-10 hitting with two outs.
Up next they'll face San Jose State on Wednesday.
#14 Michigan (5-1) plays at Santa Clara (4-3) tonight in the 3rd game of their California trip. Links:
Day two of Michigan's California trip didn't go as planned with a 5-1 loss.
Adcock had a shaky first inning where he struggled with control walking the bases loaded and nearly giving up a 3-run shot that went all the way to the track, but was able to get out of the jam with just 1 run allowed.
Things didn't get an better for Adcock in the second. He walked two of his first three batters before going breaking ball crazy and getting out of the inning with no damage. After a strong bounce back that looked like Adcock had thrown out of it with 5 strikeouts in a row, he started the 4th walking two batters and put up a 3-0 count before getting the hook.
The kicker: Adcock walked 9 batters but didn't allow a single hit.
Jayce Vancena entered the game and got out of a bases loaded jam with only 1 run allowed, but things came unravelled in the 6th. Vancena walked two batters and hit another with the bags loaded before the Mustangs singled in 2 more.
Michigan's bats just never got going. They did threaten in the 9th getting a run in with a few on before Bivens struckout.
The Wolverines fall to 5-1 on the year. They're headed to Santa Clara next for a Sunday night game.
First game of the California road trip easily went Michigan's way.
Benedetti got things going in the 4th hitting a solo shot off the pitcher Vanderslice. Later Drew Lugbauer would single in two in the 6th. For some insurance Harrison Wenson continued a fine start to the year with a 2-run bomb in the 9th.
The Wolverines were once again fantastic on the mound. Ryan Nutof threw five innings allowing three hits and fanning five. Hendrickson took over and turned in a performance of his own throwing three innings with 1 hit and 6 K's.
The 9th started shaky with a hit batter followed by an infield error and the Hawks' first run, but Lozer finished it off with minimal damage.
Until the 9th inning push from St. Joe's the Hawks were 0-10 hitting with runners on and 0-8 with runners in scoring position. Quite a performace from the pitching staff.
The Wolverines have improved to 5-0 on the year. Up next they're headed to a Saturday meeting with Cal Poly.
