that makes one of us
I have always felt that every cheer of support for Jim Leyland comes with a disclaimer.
"I love Leyland!.. butttttt he doesn't play small ball."
"I love Leyland!... but why is Craig Monroe still in the outfield?!"
And most relevant for this season:
"I love Leyland!... but why is Jhonny Peralta batting 8th today?"
In this short ESPN article, David Schoenfield addresses Jim Leyland's consistently questionable batting lineups:
JV on the mound, so kinda a must win game (not really, but please win the effing game).
What are the opinions from the lineup criticizers out there? I like this lineup (I think the 3 hole is overrated and most stats back that up), so I like this as the defensive lineup. I might prefer, depending on the team we're playing, to have the power lineup in there, replacing Kelley/Santiago with Betemit/Raburn, then using the former as defensive replacements.
Well Tigers take on the Twins tonight. Delmon Young starts in LF and bats 3rd (THANK GOD).
1. A. Jackson (CF)
2. R. Raburn (2B)
3. D. Young (LF)
4. M. Cabrera (1B)
5. V. Martinez (DH)
6. J. Peralta (SS)
7. M. Ordonez (RF)
8. A. Avila (C)
9. W. Betemit (3B)
Tigers faced a 5-0 deficit early but in the bottom of the 6th, thanks to 6 great at-bats (including a 2 run HR by Miggy and a Raburn single that drove two runs, they now lead 6-5. Currently in the top of the 7th.
It appears that after a rough outing against the Braves, Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano has cleared out his locker and told locker room personnel that he is retiring. In the 5th inning of the game, Zambrano had just given up back-to-back HRs, which totalled 5 HRs allowed for the night and was ejected after two close inside pitches to Chipper Jones, the 2nd barely missing him. Personally I hope he retires and we never have to hear any more about him.
Quade was perplexed by the chain of events that occurred.
"I came in, saw there was an empty locker," Quade said. "Then I heard that he was retiring, that he had left."
According to clubhouse personnel, Zambrano said he had enough and left Turner Field before the game ended.
Well with JV on the mound tonight, let's hope we can take 1 of 3 from the Indians and get back to a 3 game lead in the division.
