Erik Bakich gets his third commitment this month, with Johnny Slater's verbal pledge yesterday to become part of Michigan's 2013 class. Slater announced the news on Twitter . . .
Verbally committed to play baseball at the University of Michigan! #wolverine— Johnny Slater (@J_Slate2) July 29, 2012
. . . and it was also included in a brief item posted with a Free Press article on Bolden.
The 6-1 Slater attends Southfield Lathrup H.S. and also plays on the Michigan Concealed Security travel team. The Free Press item has him as a centerfielder, but his Perfect Game profile lists him as left-handed pitcher with a fastball topping out at 86 mph. I couldn't find much else about him.
Verlander's on the mound and he's dealing. AJax is 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
3-1 Tigers, bottom of the 6th.
How do you think Anibal will do in his Tigers debut?
SIAP, but nice news for Patrick Biondi of the Wolverines baseball team and the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He's the starting centerfielder for the West Division in the Cape Cod Baseball League's All Star Game on Saturday. The game supposedly will be televised on Fox College Sports Network.
Just heard on the radio, and has been confirmed on twitter that the Tigs have traded for Infante and Anibal Sanchez from the Marlins. Love the deal, there is also a chance that Sanchez could be retained at the end of the year, he's a Venezuelan guy who apparently is already on good terms with Miggy.
Editing post to clear up what exactly was swapped
- RHP Anibal Sanchez
- 2B Omar Infante
- Marlins comp pick which comes in at 36 (i think)
- RHP Jacob Turner
- C Rob Brantly
- LHP Brian Flynn (AA prospect, don't know much about him)
- Tigers comp pick which is placed somewhere in the 70's
The official thread to test the trend of a Tigers loss when an open thread has been created. Last night's thread was started when Detroit held a 4-1 lead, thus violating* the Rules and Regulations of Curse Management and Jinx Control. Let's hope Max Scherzer gives a solid outing. Go Tigers!
*Bylaw 1.2b allows for creation of a thread mid-game under the circumstances that the bases are empty and the game is tied.
EDIT: Whoever failed at an embed with the first post broke the Internet (unless you're using the mgoblog app).
[ed-S - no idea, but this foe may be beyond my powers. Sticking a sword through the monitor makes the whole internet go away, though]
So, there's been a scary trend of Tigers losing when there's a game thread and winning when there isn't. The Tigers are currently up 5-1, in the 3rd, meaning we can break that trend tonight. Or, we can confirm it if the Tigers give up a 4 run lead after this thread starts.
Fister tonight and he looks really good so far, sans Pujols homer. This would make two good starts in a row.
Delmon with a 2-out RBI single early in the game, his average is creeping towards .280.
Scherzer goes tomorrow, meaning we have a very nice shot at 3/4 against the Angels if things continue. Sets up for a big home series against the Sox, meaning the Tigers could make a huge push towards (if not claiming) first place by Monday.
