"The face of the operation is Briatore (referred to exclusively in the film by his colleagues and angry, chanting detractors as "Flavio"), an anthropomorphic radish who spends most of his time at QPR plotting to fire all of the managers."
Michigan Baseball's amazing run concluded today with a 13-4 loss to national 3 seed Louisville in the Championship of the NCAA Louisville Regional.
Michigan began the season looking like they might be in a dogfight just to make the B1G Tournament. They lost their season opening series to Long Beach State, were swept by Davidson and had embarrassing losses to Akron, EMU and Tennessee Tech.
This team exceeded expectations in the B1G regular season, finising in a 3rd place tie and at one point having a shot at an at-large bid.
However, losses to bad teams like Northwestern and the dagger to Michigan's RPI in a shutout loss at Horizon League Illinois-Chicago all but shatter any NCAA Tournament hopes.
This team then closed the regular season by upsetting #13 Oklahoma State on senior day after being blown out in the first two games of the series. This launched them on a run where they would upset FOUR NCAA Tournament teams including #4 Illinois who had won 27 of their previous 28 heading into the game.
Michigan captured their first B1G Tournament Championship in seven years and rendered all those bad losses in the regular season irrelevant by securing the B1G's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Michigan then demolished regional 2 seed Bradley on Friday, 10-5, in a game considered an upset and would drop a tough 4-3 game to regional host and No. 3 overall seed Louisville on the road. Michigan beat Bradley today 4-3 in a game where they needed to use several pitchers and had nothing left in the tank for the doubleheader with Louisville.
This Michigan team deserves to be applauded and recognized for their accomplishments this season as they have put this great program--Michigan's oldest--back into the NCAA Tournament.
Every season under Erik Bakich the win total and B1G Conference finish has gone up. The Maize and Blue are going to have their best season in a long, long time next year IMO.
3 seed Michigan is taking on the 1st seeded Louisville Cardinals now in an elimination game in Louisville.
Michigan needs to beat Louisville in this game and then again tomorrow night at 6 PM to win the regional. Louisville just needs to win one of the two games.
Michigan beat Bradley 4-3 earlier today. They lost to Louisville yesterday 4-3 in a very tight game.
The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3. Michigan is the away team and is batting first. Keith Lehmann is starting for Michigan. He's 1-3 with a 4.80 this year. Expect the bullpen a lot today.
Michigan beats Bradley 4-3 in an Elimination Game.
Michigan will now play at 3 Louisville in a rematch which is also a must-win game.
Should Michigan win, it will force a Monday night championship game.
Tigers: 2 runs on 8 hits
Angels: 7 runs on 6 hits....5 of them Home Runs.
Since when do we put batting practice pitchers into actual big league games? Are the tigers going to figure it out this year, or are they going to agonizingly melt away after their 9-1 start?
After pounding regional 2 seed Bradley yesterday, 10-5, Michigan has a much more difficult task today.
Michigan will play regional host Louisville who is the No. 3 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. The game is expected to have a crowd of over 6,000 as Louisville's game last night against Morehead State had that many.
Bradley won the early game today 9-4, eliminating Morehead State and advancing to the second elimination game.
This certainly isn't the first time this Michigan team has faced steep odds. In the B1G Tournament, they knocked off #4 Illinois who had won of 27 of their previous 28 games.
Michigan is arguably the hottest team in the nation right now. Let's see if they can duplicate the magic of the 2007 Nashville Regional where they upset 1 Vanderbilt to win it.
