A REMINDER. I don't actually look at my old ballots before I assemble these things so no jitter is pretty weird.

NEW #1. Yeah, beating LSU leaps Alabama back to the top. That game doesn't affect LSU's status at all because hey, everyone behind LSU: just try and lose to Alabama by four points.

Oregon State soars! No reason.

Clemson plummets! No reason.

Michigan! Oh hell you try to find a team to put in there. Michigan's only losses are to Alabama, ND, and Nebraska when they did not have a QB for half of it.

MACtion! See the previous bullet.

K-State? Admittedly somewhat for the novelty of ranking K-State first and a desire to see the poll at large reflect the closeness of the top two teams, but schedules are comparable with Alabama. Blew Texas Tech about how Alabama blew out Mississippi State.

Untying the Georgia-Florida-South Carolina-LSU mess. Georgia actually still loses this. They are 1-1 in this group of teams with one blowout loss and no other quality wins. Florida is 2-1 and beat A&M. LSU is 1-1 and beat A&M. South Carolina is 1-2, has no other quality wins, and beat Georgia raw. Ranking them behind Georgia is punishing them for losing to LSU by two points while Georgia doesn't play them.

UCLA? Nebraska win gains quality—I guess, I mean—and they beat Arizona State narrowly as the end of the poll crapped on themselves.

Duke? Hey, they've had more good wins than Mississippi State.

Why you hate Mississippi State? The Bulldogs' nonconference schedule features Jackson State, South Alabama, Middle Tennessee, and Troy. Their conference wins are over Auburn, Kentucky, and Tennessee, who are collectively 0-17 in the SEC. They just got hammered by Alabama. So… yeah, they edge Boise because Boise lost to a 5-4 MSU team instead of Alabama but they are essentially a mid-major right now. That they were 11th before the Alabama game is probably the dumbest thing polls have done this year. I'm part of that since I had them 15th last week. Derp.

Similarly, I had Louisville way too high last week. Best win: UNC, maybe Cincinnati. Projected fate against USC: not good.

FLORIDA #1. Okay, okay, Mr. Hinton, I'm with you. Florida's collection of scalps is considerably more impressive than Alabama's. I'm still not sure about KSU because computers aren't margin aware and Alabama hasn't survived a scrap against Iowa State, they've demolished all Iowa-State-lookin' folk on the schedule.

GEORGIA GTFO. I was going to put them a lot higher and then I looked at South Carolina, looked at who South Carolina had lost to (#1 and #7, the latter by two points), looked at what happened to Georgia when they played South Carolina, looked at Georgia's schedule (best win: Missouri? Vandy?) and was all like GTFO. If they lose to UF this weekend, Georgia is probably going to end the regular season 10-2 without beating a team with more than 7 wins—and then they'll get a bowl game against a Big Ten team with seven wins. BIG TENNNN.

FLIPSIDE SOUTH CAROLINA. For all the reasons Georgia is low, South Carolina is still high despite getting throttled by Florida. They're Georgia except they've already played Florida and are 28 points better than Georgia. Four touchdowns == 9 spots. Science.

Oh look Big Ten teams again. Until next week, when all four of the BIG TENNNN teams at the bottom of the ballot lose even though two of them are playing each other.

A large shakeout, with all skepticism about South Carolina dispelled and Oregon State suffering thanks to impressive wins various other places. Some of their fall is due to week to week jitter that isn't meaningful, but Florida and South Carolina earned it, yo.

FLORIDA STATE. Propped up by the Clemson win.

BIG LSU DROP.  Auburn suxxxxxx, and they struggled with Towson. They're two weeks from icing Ralph Bolden at center. BOOM LES'D. The Washington win does have some meaning after they beat Stanford, but they're not looking vintage. They'll rebound or fall further after their matchup with South Carolina; right now their resume is not anything that demands them in the top ten.

CINCINNATI? Um… well. Undefeated? It's that with two decent wins or teams with dodgy bits all over. Oklahoma finally got a win over a real team—a real team with no wins over BCS schools.

OHIO!!! Respect.
