Not to be outdone by Nebraska's tribute to The Noid of Dominos commercial fame, Wisconsin just unveiled the "feaux-back" uniforms they will wear in Lincoln this fall:
Wisconsin and Purdue have agreed to move their 2013 game up to the 4th week of the season (the traditional, "every Big 10 team plays a snacky cake" week), opening the Big 10 season a week earlier than the rest of the conference. A good move in what is typically an atrocious week of Big 10 football (though we play ND in the 4th week this year). It also allows Wisconsin to add a November game against BYU.
On another note, man, does the potential decline of Penn State make Wisconsin's 2013 schedule easy.
Aug. 31 Massachusetts
Sept. 7 Tennessee Tech
Sept. 14 at Arizona State
Sept. 21 Purdue
Sept. 28 at Ohio State
Oct. 5 Open
Oct. 12 Northwestern
Oct. 19 at Illinois
Oct. 26 Open
Nov. 2 at Iowa
Nov. 9 BYU
Nov. 16 Indiana
Nov. 23 at Minnesota
Nov. 30 Penn State
Obviously, they'll be underdogs at OSU and maybe Iowa, but they'll likely be at least touchdown favorites in every other game, missing Nebraska, MSU, and UM. This schedule here makes the need for a 9 game conference schedule plainly evident.
Cliff Harris has been dismissed from the Oregon Ducks by Chip Kelly. He was suspended for their first game of the season against LSU for driving 118 mph in the whole "There's weed in the car, but not really because you're Cliff Harris so you can go" deal. He hasn't played the last 5 games after being suspended indefinitely on October 25th for driving on a suspended license, without insurance, and without wearing a seatbelt. Then on November 25th he was cited for marijuana possession. Now he's been dismissed from the team after clearly demonstrating a lack of any self-control.
It'll be interesting to see how this affects their game against Wisconsin. Oregon's defense didn't really change much in the 5 games Harris was suspended for. They even held Luck in check. And Wisconsin is a run first team anyways so...
Also, anyone heard any news about the NCAA investigation into Chip Kelly lately? For his involvement with Lyles and buying recruits? Back when it broke, people were saying that he'd have to go.
The 840 comments on the other open thread won't open anymore for me.
Word on other message boards (Scout, Rivals, NDNation) is that Dayne Crist is going to transfer to Wisconsin. Not as big as a get for Wisconsin as Wilson was but Crist is probably better than any other QB on that roster after Wilson leaves. Crist has 1 year of elgibility and will be able to transfer and play immediately just as Wilson did. He'd be able to play in ND's bowl game and then transfer in time for spring semester and be able to participate in spring practices.
If Rees decides to transfer too, it'd be pretty bad for ND. The ND depth chart at QB would be Hendrix and.... Not exactly the depth you would want when your QB is scrambling and taking hits as often as Hendrix would.
You have to love Brian Kelly burning bridges.
What does the board think?
