Game Day Weather

A surface trough (think of it as a stretched out area of low pressure) and extra energy in the upper levels of the atmosphere will bring rain to Minnesota tonight (and then to the mitten tomorrow). Luckily, things will clear out for the majority of the day Saturday, and definitely for the game. Evening temps will be near normal for this time of year, so right around 50 degrees. Not too shabby of a Saturday! Let's put that jug back on the shelf in A2!

If you're in Minneapolis...

Tailgating

If you're up early, lots of clouds and temps in the low 40s with a SW wind at about 10mph (enough to feel a little breeze, leaves blow about). We're going to keep the chance of a few sprinkles here and there around until mid-morning, and that's when we'll start to see some of the clouds break up. We hit 50 degrees for lunchtime, keeping SW winds around 10mph, and we'll have mostly cloudy skies by then. Throughout the afternoon we'll see more and more of that sunshine! Highs will reach the upper 50s, and you'll notice the winds pick up a little bit to around 15mph (some small branches move), so make sure there's a rock on top of those napkins!

Kickoff

Skies really clear out for the evening! Just a few clouds linger as we kick off. 55 degrees heading in, with SW winds back down to about 10mph.

Halftime

We don't need too many layers for this game! Temps only go down by a few degrees as we take that halftime break - hanging on to the low 50s. Keeping those steady 10mph winds out of the SW, and just a few clouds in the sky.

Post-Game

We fall into the upper 40s leaving the game with mostly clear skies. Winds will be out of the SW, but start to shift more westerly heading into the late night. They'll remain constant right around 10mph, and be out of the WSW towards last call. Not a bad night to stay out late and celebrate! If you're taking advantage of turning the clocks back, it'll only be 45 degrees with a wind chill in the low 40s. If you're traveling Sunday, we're looking at highs around 60 with a mix of sun and clouds.

If you're in Ann Arbor...

Yeesh. A gray, rainy day for us here at home. We start the day with lots of clouds and temps in the low 40s. Winds are southerly and light through the first part of the day, and then start to pick up in the early afternoon. Highs will be around 50 degrees. If you're headed somewhere to watch the game, temps will be in the mid 40s with S winds at 15mph, gusting in the low 20s (small trees sway). Rain also moves in during the afternoon, and you can expect showers throughout the evening into the late-night. If you're out late, we lose the gusts and winds drop to 10mph, turning westerly. We then have some scattered showers into Sunday morning before the clouds giveway to some sun. C'mon blue!

Game Day Weather

High pressure in the plains and a trough - think of it as a stretched out area of low pressure - to the north near the straits will keep us under northwesterly wind flow and keep that rain chance lingering. We look to be dry most of the day with some sun, but a rogue shower isn't out of the question. Dress in the maize & blue layers for this one - it'll be chilly!

Tailgating

A frosty start to this Saturday! We do have a freeze warning in effect until 9am, so if you're headed out early, expect to see some on the grass before that sun warms us up a bit. You'll want the hot coffee and the crockpot meals for this one - we start the day around 30 degrees, edging into the low 30s by mid-morning. With NW winds around 10mph (leaves blow about), it'll feel more like 25 degrees with the wind chill (did we skip Fall or what?!). As we approach lunchtime, that's when we start to see the low 40s. That's also when the wind picks up - tie down the tent and put the rock on the napkins! Winds will be up to 15mph and gusting in the low 20s (this is when you'd see white horses on the water, tree branches sway), and it'll make it feel like we're still in the low 30s. Partly cloudy skies to clean up that tailgate before the game, and we're up near 45 degrees.

Kickoff

Some clouds to start the game and 49 degrees. We do keep that chance of a stray shower in the forecast, but if it does rain it won't last long. Steady winds will be out of the NW at 15mph, still gusting in the low 20s. That will keep the wind chill hovering right around 40 degrees.

Halftime

Some sun and some clouds by the halftime show, with the chance for a rain drop or two. We'll have temps drop just a couple degrees, so we keep the mid 40s for the second half. You'll start the notice the gusts decrease, but steady winds will remain about 15mph. This is probably going to be one of the halftime shows you spend getting hot chocolate!

Post-Game

Low 40s leaving the game, with a decent amount of clouds. Good news is - winds start to die down. If you're headed out to dinner, they drop to 10mph, staying out of the NW, by the time you're finished. You'll definitely want the jacket - dare I say winter coat - if you'll be out later! Temperatures fall to the upper 30s late-night (wind chill low 30s) with partly cloudy skies, and you'll be out for that last celebratory brewski, we're hitting that freezing mark (wind chill 25 degrees). Time to come home Paul Bunyan!

Game Day Weather

While we have a weak cold front to the north Friday night, high pressure will be in control of the Great Lakes for the weekend. It looks to be a perfect fall football day! Typical fall in the mitten - you'll want layers as we start the day cool, warm up nicely in the afternoon, and get a little chilly at night. Expect some light winds out of the SW. Get the crockpot and brewskis ready! Let's get a win out there guys!

Tailgating

If you're up and at 'em early you may see some fog. It'll be patchy, but could reduce visibilities quickly if you're out picking up the last minute bag of ice or bottle of hot sauce - just give yourself a couple extra minutes to do so. It will also be chilly! Temps to start the day will be around 40 degrees, with a light northwesterly wind. Without many clouds, sun will let the fog burn off, and begin to warm us up! By mid-morning, we'll be up around 50, and we'll be approaching 60 degrees for that lunchtime tailgate. Winds will shift during the first part of the day, out of the WSW mid-morning, and SW by the time we're heading into the afternoon, remaining around 5-10mph (a light breeze that would blow about some loose paper and leaves). Plenty of sunshine for tailgating - can't ask for much better!

Kickoff

Lots of sun for the kick-off! You may want the hat or the sunglasses for this game, rather than leaving them in the car. 63 degrees for the start, and the low 60s is where our highs will end up for the day. We'll have a few clouds here and there heading throughout the first half, with SW winds right around 10mph.

Halftime

Down a degree or two by that halftime show, so still plenty comfortable with lots of sunshine. Winds will stay steady, holding at 10mph out of the SW.

Post-Game

Dipping just below that 60 degree mark as you walk out of the gates - smiling from a great win! If you're headed out to dinner, you may want the jacket - or walk a little faster back to the car/home - because temps will continue to drop off without much cloud cover. What will help is that southerly wind flow. Mid 50s for the dinner-time hours, and into the 40s for the late-night, hitting 45 for last call. That little bit of a breeze (SW around 5mph) will add a chill that'll have it feeling like 40. Go Blue!!

Game Day Weather

Someone asked if we could borrow last week's weather for this week - if only! It's going to be a raw day, no question about it. We have high pressure to the north, a stationary front along the coast, an upper level low over the SE U.S., and then of course Joaquin to the south as well. Being smooshed between a couple of systems will keep us in breezy NE winds, and that upper low is helping to bring some of Joaquin's moisture on up for more rain. I'd wear a couple layers and a poncho!

If you're traveling...

Tailgating

Rainy & windy! We actually have a flood watch through Saturday morning. Estimates show 2-3+" of rainfall overnight, and with another good 1/4" possible in the morning, be careful of ponding on the roads. I also wouldn't wear the nicest shoes, since there'll be plenty of puddles and mud around! You're probably going to want the hot coffee heading out the door too - temps will be in the low 50s to start our Saturday. Winds will remain up, steady in the upper teens (leaves and papers blow about, small branches sway) and there will be gusts into the low 30s (you can hear the wind whistle, it's hard to use an umbrella).

Kickoff

56 degrees to start the game. Cloudy skies with a pretty good chance it'll rain at some point in the first half. Good news is, showers look to break up a lot after lunch, so although they're still relatively likely, we may catch a break. Winds remain high, up around 17mph with gusts into the low 30s (empty garbage cans tip over, big trees sway).

Halftime

Anyone up for hot chocolate? Up a degree by the half, but we're going to keep the gray skies around, and still have a decent chance for showers. The positive side to a little rain is there doesn't look to be much lightning - ok, ok, I know that's not super awesome news, but we gotta take what we can get out of a day like this! Winds haven't budged.

Post-Game

Topping out in the upper 50s in College Park - a day below normal for them (go figure, nice weather returns this coming week). More scattered showers are possible throughout the rest of the day and overnight, but they do taper off quite a bit into Sunday. We stay in the mid 50s temperature-wise through the rest of the night, with NE winds staying up at 20mph, gusting in the low 30s. Go blue!

If you're staying home...

A gray day with scattered showers passing through. We're going to struggle to hit 50 degrees today, and we'll spend most of the day in the 40s. Breezy for us here too, with winds out of the ENE around 20mph, gusting to 30mph. We lose the gusts around dinner-time, but keep steady NE winds at 15mph into the late-night. Temperatures will remain in the mid 40s through the evening and overnight. Grab the jacket if you're headed out to watch the game!

Game Day Weather

Happy Saturday everyone! And thank you for such kind words last week. We have a picture perfect day in store for us at the Big House! High pressure to the northeast of Lake Huron will bring light easterly winds and keep us dry with lots of sunshine. A short and sweet forecast - because the weather's just that good. Let's Go Blue!

Tailgating

Not too bad of a start to the day! We will have some cloud cover from the overnight, which has helped us stay a little warmer - so we'll start the early morning hours in the mid 50s. The main issue will be patchy fog. Some of us have seen it every morning this week, and game day won't be any different. Just give yourself a couple extra minutes on the road. It will burn off with the sunshine, and we'll have winds out of the east around 8-10mph (leaves blow about) throughout the morning.

Kickoff

Beautiful start to the game today! 70 degrees, a mix of sun and clouds, and an east wind around 10mph. Can't ask for much better than this! Even though we're into September, UV levels can still hit moderate, so if you're sensitive to the sun you may want to put on a little sunscreen.

Halftime

A gorgeous afternoon is in store for Ann Arbor! Low 70s by halftime, and with seeing some sun, you'll probably want a cold drink right about now! Winds remain out of the east, but they do pick up a little bit to a steady 15mph (leaves, twigs blow around).

Post-Game

Right around 75 degrees throughout the afternoon and into the evening. We'll have partly cloudy skies and east winds at 15mph until around dinner time - then we start to have those temps dip into the 60s. If you're out late-night, we're down to 60 degrees at 10pm, with ESE winds lightening to 10mph. We do start to see a little more cloud cover heading into the overnight. By last call, winds will have shifted to come out of the SE at 10mph. This, along with mostly cloudy skies, helps to keep the temperature hovering right near 60 - not too bad! C'mon blue!

Game Day Weather

Sorry this is so late y'all! I have been traveling all day to get to a funeral tomorrow, so I may not be able to provide as many updates as I normally would - I'll try, but keep an eye on the weather in the morning! We've got a low pressure system and cold front draped right across Michigan, causing plenty of rain and storms. We'll keep the chance of rain and storms around throughout Saturday morning until it pushes east. Temperatures will be pretty comfortable, but even after the rain ends, we'll have breezy conditions. Let's send the Rebels home 0 and 3!

Tailgating

Have an eye on the sky if you'll be out tailgating early! Although rain can make things wet and muddy, storms are something you don't want to be outdoors in. Some rumbles aren't out of the question for the first part of the day. After hovering around 70 degrees all night, temps drop slightly to the mid 60s mid morning. Winds will shift throughout the morning, starting out from the SW at 10-15mph (leaves and small twigs blow around), turning to the NW at 15mph. Towards lunch we also start to see a few gusts around 20mph (you'd see white horses on the water), but our rain chances decrease.

Kickoff

There may be a lingering shower in the area, but that threat looks to go down in the first half. The sun will try to get through those clouds, and you'll notice them break up more and more during the first half of the game. We start at 65 degrees with NW winds at a steady 20mph, gusting to around 30mph (this is when small trees sway, you can hear the wind whistle, and empty garbage cans can blow over).

Halftime

As we dry out and see a more of the sun, our temperatures will get a little boost - edging closer to 70 for the half. Still a bit windy- NW winds hanging on at 20mph and gusting to 30mph.

Post-Game

Up to the low 70s for afternoon highs in Ann Arbor, with a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will remain up until dinner-time, when we lose the gusts. By then, we're down to the mid 60s. Temps then drop right quick with clearing skies - down to 60 in the late evening hours with just a few clouds, and NNW winds around 10mph. If you're out celebrating a win into the wee hours, you'll see plenty of stars, winds will be out of the north turning light, and we'll be in the low 50s - so you may want to grab a sweatshirt! Let's go blue!
