UConn

Well , it's not exactly the logo itself that "terrifies" Carolyn Luby, but the traits she sees represented by the new logo.  As Luby, puts in her open letter to UConn president Susan Herbst,

Instead of giving ... problematic aspects of male athletic peer culture at UConn a second look or a giving the real face of athletics a true makeover, it appears that the focus of your administration is prioritizing the remodeling of the fictional face of the Husky Logo.

What terrifies me about the admiration of such traits is that I know what it feels like to have a real life Husky look straight through you and to feel powerless, and to wonder if even the administration cannot “mess with them.”

"The University of Connecticut plans to add more than 2,000 temporary seats to its 40,000-seat football stadium for September’s game against Michigan." I stumbled across this article and it made me think, why are they adding "temporary" seating instead of permanent? Their stadium has been 90% full the last four years. I understand that their conference situation is up in the air but they must still have aspirations of building their football program. It seems like a small expansion would be a step in that direction. Jim Calhoun will step down from UConn tomorrow.

Pretty big news.  Definitely a top 10 basketball coach of all time (maybe top 5).

Impressive to get 873 wins, and 3 championships- particularly at a school with almost zero basketball history (at least of success) prior to him going to UConn.

No real impact on Michigan basketball- but some pretty serious news for MGoBloggers to chat about.  Been a busy day for the Big East- losing N.D, and Calhoun- been a rough stretch for the conference....

Thought that this was a pretty cool little video made by John McEntee, a qb for UConn. I'm not sure how this translates to game type situations but he is a pretty damn accurate quarterback. (I was the most impressed by the throws he made while sitting down in the basketball stadium)

With West Virginia beating Pittsburgh today in the Backyard Brawl, UConn, of all teams, now controls its own destiny to get to the BCS.  This is due to their two victories over the above referenced teams.  Now, I know that we all expected UConn to be a decent team this year, but after their showing in Michigan Stadium, did anyone really expect this?

The Big East is a joke and doesn't deserve an automatic BCS representative.
