When faced with insomnia, I apparently update the recruiting rankings. Scout's (sorry, Fox Sports Next's) new layout is an absolute unnavigable travesty. As there was all of one new commitment this week, that's all I've got. Changes since the last rankings:

10-1-12: Illinois picks up Tyler White.

Chart? Chart:

Big Ten Recruiting Rankings: 9-30-12

Not a whole lot going in the recruiting world over the past couple weeks, but there is a new addition to the big board: the "POINTS" column, which is simply the product of number of commits times star average. Hopefully this adds a little more clarity to the rankings; as you can see below, Michigan and Notre Dame are well ahead of the field and Ohio State has some separation from the pack at large. Then there's Minnesota. Never change, Gophers. Changes since the last rankings:

9-11-12: Indiana picks up Jordan Heiderman.
9-19-12: Penn State picks up Kasey Gaines.
9-20-12: Ohio State picks up Tyquan Lewis.
9-22-12: Indiana picks up Anthony Young.
9-23-12: Notre Dame picks up Torii Hunter Jr.
9-25-12: Penn State picks up Tanner Hartman.

NOTE: Unranked recruits are counted as two-star players.

To eliminate any confusion about how the rankings are determined (to be honest, they used to be arbitrary), team order is determined by multiplying the number of commits by star average.

Very little action in the rankings this week—the lone new commit goes to Notre Dame, which is slowly closing the gap on Michigan at the top of the big board. Changes since the last rankings:

9-7-12: Notre Dame picks up Doug Randolph.

Very little action in the recruiting world this week, though Penn State's class continues to lose players, this time in-state linebacker Zayd Issah—and that was before they opened the season with a loss to Ohio. This should go well. Changes since the last rankings:

8-26-12: Michigan State picks up Dennis Finley. Indiana picks up Jacobi Hunter.
8-29-12: Zayd Issah decommits from Penn State.
8-31-12: Kenton Gibbs decommits from Illinois.

The Big Ten Recruiting Rankings returns after a two-week hiatus. Outside of Penn State's class continuing to fall apart, little of note occurred since the rankings were last posted; look no further than Indiana picking up the highest-ranked recruit in that span for evidence. Changes since the last rankings:

8-5-12: Minnesota picks up Jalen Myrick.
8-6-12: Wisconsin picks up Alex James.
8-7-12: Illinois picks up Reggie Spearman. Dorian Johnson and Zach Bradshaw decommit from Penn State.
8-8-12: Nebraska picks up Zach Hannon. Indiana picks up Myles Graham.
8-9-12: Nebraska picks up Jonathan Cook. Indiana picks up Antonio Allen.
8-10-12: Illinois picks up Martize Barr. Northwestern picks up Godwin Igwebuike.
8-11-12: Penn State picks up Jordan Smith.
8-12-12: Iowa picks up Matthew VandeBerg. Indiana picks up Chase Dutra.
8-18-12: Illinois picks up Miguel Hermosillo.
8-20-12: Purdue picks up Dwayne Johnson.
8-25-12: Michigan State picks up Demetrius Cooper.

^The average of the average rankings of the four recruiting services (the previous four columns). The figure is calculated based on the raw numbers and then rounded, so the numbers above may not average out exactly.

NOTE: Unranked recruits are counted as two-star players.

To eliminate any confusion about how the rankings are determined (to be honest, they used to be arbitrary), team order is determined by multiplying the number of commits by star average.

Little of note in this week's rankings, though once again Penn State loses a commitment, this time to Notre Dame. As a result, PSU continues to drop down the board. Changes since the last rankings:

8-1-12: Purdue picks up Austin Logan.
8-3-12: Illinois picks up Darwyn Kelly.
8-4-12: Northwestern picks up Keith Watkins.
8-5-12: William Fuller decommits from Penn State. Notre Dame picks up William Fuller.
