to play football, not to play trumpet
I just read an interesting article about the cancellation clause in Michigan's contract with the NHL re the Winter Classic. Apparently, the NHL can get out of the contract up to the last minute for only $100K (plus UM's actual expenses). This gives the NHL flexibility to go forward with the event even if a collective bargaining agreement with the players is not reached until December.
At first I thought UM might have gotten screwed by only getting $100,000 even if they spend the bucks necessary to prepare, but it will also be reimbursed for it's expenses (if the contract is cancelled after November 3).
I don't follow hockey much and was not even aware that the season might be interrupted by a strike. I am still trying to get my head around having a hockey game in Michigan Stadium on New Years' Day when (traditionalist as I am), I think the entire focus should be on Michigan playing football somewhere.
Has anyone ever heard of MGoPatio? I stumbled across this on Facebook today and it looks BADASS.
Top 10 plays as voted by fans, where would you put Denard to Roundtree?
Mod Edit: Fixed the title. I had no idea what this thread was about. [zl]
All I can say is: Thank you Michigan football gods..:
Hope this actually helps on Saturdays!
According to mlive.com - here's the LINK. Michigan Stadium will hold the 2013 Winter Classic. Yes, we know it's been coming, but it is now official The NHL will announce tomorrow.
Also learned in this link above is the GLI will be played outdoors at Comerica Park. So, Michigan Hockey will now play outdoors AGAIN....
I think I'll wear my David Harlock game worm Toronto Maple Leafs sweater to the game. He was afterall the first 3-time Captain at UM....
The NHL has all but finalized details to hold next year's Winter Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, while continuing negotiations for a second outdoor rink in downtown Detroit where all ancillary events would be held, a source told ESPN.com Friday.
Also, there's talk of holding the GLI final in Comerica Park:
The annual Great Lakes Invitational, a college tournament that features Michigan State, Michigan and other top college invitees, is among the events being considered for the downtown rink. That tournament is usually held at Joe Louis Arena, the Red Wings' permanent home, in late December.
