Coaches' timeouts are worse. Basketball teams should get one, full stop.
Michigan spring game
So I'm planning on driving up to Ann Arbor for the 2012 Spring Game, which will be my first trip to the Big House in the spring. I have a couple questions that I was wondering (expecting) my more knowledgeable MGoBloggers to answer:
1. I know there's a lot of other events going on that day, including the lacrosse game afterwards and the alumni game and 5k run before the game. What's the parking setup going to look like? Same as for home games or should I expect to park farther away? (I've always gone golf course or pioneer lot) and what are prices like?
2. Similar question- what does the tailgating look like for the spring game?
3. What kind of scoring system is used?
4. Can you sit anywhere you want?
5. Is there any opportunity to get autographs from players and coaches?
So, I have the day off and am a little bored. Well, better start looking ahead to the spring game!
With an ample amount of time for proper execution, I call on Brian, Tim, Paul, FA, and the entire mgoblog community to begin planning for an awesome mgoblog tailgate for the spring game on April 17th. Because September 4th vs UCONN seems like light years away, the spring game is the next best thing we have to look forward to (sorry bball and hockey). Let's beat the 50,000 some mark set last year and support our boys. And as a plus, most of the improvements to the stadium will be done for us to check out.
I would love (LOVE@!) to see the Michigan spring game get to the wild and slightly insane levels of attendance set by the SEC schools every year. Also, there will probably be a bunch of recruits there so seeing a bunch of drunk, rabid fans show up to a scrimmage in the middle of April has got to be good, right? RIGHT.
So mgobloggers, what do you think? I know something similar was done last year in terms of a tailgate but whatever, let's do it bigger and better this year.
P.S. That is an awesome time of year in a2 (fingers crossed that the weather behaves well) so after the game outdoor patios at places like Dominicks, Charleys, Main Street, or wherever you might like to go will probably be open. JUST DO IT.
EDIT: Perhaps this should be a Diary. Moderators, if ya agree make the appropriate switch.
This is probably a really stupid question but I've been up and down the interwebz via Google and I can't find out very much information about the Spring Game. I understand that it is a game played in the spring, but not much else.
Is it the starters vs. the backups? Is it simply Offense vs. Defense? Are there two offenses each led by a different QB?
Like I said I realize this is probably a stupid question, but I'd love some answers.
I am wondering how many of you went to the spring game this year. I attend several home games a year, but I've never been in the spring. The atmosphere was almost like a real game, and I actually got to sit on the 50 yard line!! I had such a great time, that I will now go to every one I am physically able to attend.
Tate was way better than I imagined he could be so early into his college career. Now I know that the Defense was the 2's, and I know that I am biased as hell, but when he runs this offense it looks like the real thing. Last year it was looking like a highschool team, and none of the QB's looked comfortable back there. Tate made quick decisions, accurate passes, and sneaky cuts. I really like how Tate hits recievers in stride, giving them room to make plenty of YAC.
My favorite thing about the game was the play action rollout on the goal-line. They ran it twice - the first time he hit Roy Roundtree in between two defenders on a rope. Boom. TD. The second, Roy was covered and he just pumped the ball and ran it in. That play will be hard to stop, and you gotta like a kid who understands making the defense commit. That's not something that can be easily taught.
When David Cone came in, the offense was back to looking uncomfortable -and it is pretty obvious that RR's offense is not for pro-style QB's.
I have a feeling that the walk on, Jack Kennedy will pass him along with Denard, and Feagin. There were several recruits who changed UM to their top pick after that day, and they were just as impressed.
It is now our job to go out and support them every year. If we can double the attendance next year, it will help even more. It will help the newbies see how the game atmosphere in the best stadium anywhere in the world is, and show the prospects that UM is exactly where they want to play for the next four years. Some schools can't get 50,000 people to a real game. Actually most...
The way the new construction is looking, I really think the stadium will be considerably louder when it's finished.
I read some grumbling about the defense's performance, but I didn't see one TD scored on the first team D. What I did see was multiple fronts, blitzing on 3rd down, line stunts, and Obi Wan Ezeh busting heads all over the field. When you really look at last year's D, the run was not a problem for us. In fact, third and long was the worst position to put them in, because we were so weak at the back end. In comes a slew of talented Freshman and an old experienced coach. Greg Robinson is a great choice to take all of the current coaches and form a plan they can all agree on. I hope Justin Turner can come in and contribute right away, because he's got more talent than anyone we have at Safety right now.
My point is all of you need to come to the game next year because it's a blast, it's free, you can sit wherever you want for a change, and the team needs our help. Go Blue, Go RR, and let's start the season 4-0!!!!!!!!!
Forcier lined up under center on a handful of occasions last Saturday. Mostly in obvious running downs, but I think there was a play action in there at one point where he booted out. This struck me as odd. Did Threet/Sheridan line up under center last year? I'm sure there were some short yardage occasions, but it seems there were as many plays from under center last Saturday as there were for the entire previous season. Did anyone else notice this? Is my memory bad?
