Great interview by Chantal Jennings at WolverineNation of former Michigan tailback Butch Woolfolk (1978-1981).  For a long time he was Michigan's career leader in rushing.
 Now he's ranked 5th historically.

Darboh's recruitment: Is Kelly helping us out?

By PeterKlima — September 8th, 2011 at 9:12 AM — 37 comments

It sounds like WR Amara Darboh's guardians were taken back by the way Brian Kelly losses his poise and composure (while teaching that his team should keep theirs):

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20110907/SPORTS05/309070083/-1/iowapoll07/Hansen-One-Darboh-s-suitors-took-too-far

“I know how emotional it gets out there,” he said. “I understand that’s part of the game. I really do. But it did shock me. You hold Notre Dame up a little higher than that. It made me wonder how I would feel if Amara was treated like that on national TV.”

When the Notre Dame player reached the sideline, lip readers across the nation were certain they saw Kelly call his player a (f-bomb) something or other. In front of “Touchdown Jesus” and everything.

When the player walked away, the coach followed on his heels and went off again. Always teaching, that guy. But not always learning.

This is also the person in charge the day a student-videographer climbed a 50-foot tower in 50 mph winds to record a practice session and fell to his death. It's been a rough couple of years.

Here’s what Kelly said Tuesday at his weekly news conference: “Did I hit somebody? Did I strike somebody?”

Then he admitted to being “extremely frustrated” at the time and said, "I've got to do a better job of understanding when that camera is on me, and it seems like that camera is on me more than I'm used to. I'll have to do a better job of controlling my emotions.”

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football program will open the 2014 season with a match-up against Appalachian State University on Aug. 30 at Michigan Stadium. This will be the second meeting between the Wolverines and Mountaineers at Michigan Stadium.

"We look forward to facing Appalachian State again," said U-M Athletic Director Dave Brandon.

The only previous game in the series between Michigan and Appalachian State came in the 2007 season opener. The defending FCS champion Mountaineers stunned the Wolverines, 34-32, as ASU blocked a field goal attempt that could have won the game for Michigan at the end of regulation. It was the first-ever game broadcast by the Big Ten Network.

U-M has two remaining open dates on its schedule.

UW La Crosse Football, The Roger Harring Era & Michigan's Greg Mattison

Greg Mattison played his college football at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (Division III). He played for arguably one of the great football college football coaches of all time, Roger Harring, who is in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Michigan's DC Greg Mattison played for Harring and the UW-LaCrosse Indians (now called the Eagles) in 1969 and 1970.  These were Harring's first two years coaching at UWL finishing 5-5 in 1969 and 5-4-1 in 1970.

Harring never had a losing season and finished 261-75-7 (.771) 12th all time among college coaches and 4th among Division III.

I found this document from the UW-LaCrosse online library a very interesting read about Harring and Mattison. There are season summaries for Harring's football teams for 1969 and 1970 which include Mattison in the team photos. He wore No. 63 in 1969 and No. 66 in 1970.

1969 UW-LaCrosse Indians Team Photo: 8th row (top row) first player on the left is Mattison:

1970 UW-LaCrosse Indians football team:  Mattison is in second row, 5th player from the left (No. 66):

Also, apparently Greg Mattison was drafted in 1971 by the Washington Redskins (see page 9).

OT: Did you buy a 4-pack? Looking for a trade...

I bought a 4 pack of tickets, and I am only able to go to three games this year.  I am going to Western, Eastern and ND. I also have tickets to the Minnesota game that I want to trade for any of the first three games (two tickets). My seats for the Minnesota game aren't great, but I figure some of you would rather go to a Big Ten game.  The seats are in Row 83, Seat 21-22. What are you willing to trade and where are they?

If you're serious about this email me at - michiganfanforlife@yahoo.com

Can't wait to go to the Big House this year. Go Blue!!!

B1G Championship Game Tickets/Lucas Oil Stadium info

For those who don't know, tickets for the B1G Championship Game went on sale today at 10:00 AM. In case M makes it in, buy them up now! Worst case scenario is we don't make it in and sell for a profit because the face-value tickets are going to be sold out soon.

http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/050046D1062DCE7F?artistid=1620971&majo...

I bought 4 in section 528. For anyone who has been, how are these tickets and the venue in general?

Also, does anyone know how the B1G plans on splitting the Legends/Leaders (ugh) fan bases, if at all? There was no guide on where to buy tickets, but I've seen split stadiums at other conference championship games.

Go Blue!

EDIT: Looks like the game is already sold out. WOW
