"Northwestern fans can be both heartened and disheartened by the loss to Minnesota just like how nineteenth-century resurrectionists were heartened when they pried a heart from a freshly-buried corpse and then disheartened it when they sold it to a disreputable anatomist."
[UPDATE 8/26/2014 from Seth:]
While the ticket spreadsheet was awesome for its time, we've known for some time that it's subject to abuse, and more likely to be damaged the more our community has grown. We've been on the lookout for some way to add a layer of security that's still free on both ends. Now we have that!
Go here: http://www.tiqiq.com/sellerdirect and sign in with your Facebook account. Then list your tickets, put MGoBlog somewhere in your description if you like, then copy the link to your tickets and paste on the spreadsheet.
Nobody's forced to use that system. This is just a protection for sellers so their price can't be changed, and for buyers so they know they're dealing with a real human with a name and pictures of their cat.
To go along with the 'more informative headlines' theme, this thread will hopefully get set as a sticky. I have made a spreadsheet listing all people selling and looking for tickets.. http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Avnckx2kNv9GdGVPQXBQMDZQdFJ4RTJS... Basketball season is here.. I've started up a new sheet in the document for basketball. Ive made the permissions open to anyone to edit, so we'll try the trust method for a while until someone abuses. Feel free to post what you are looking for or selling. If it gets abused, I'll go back to the method of requiring someone to email me and then posting.
After I spend a glorious fall afternoon tailgating and getting ready to cheer on my Michigan Wolverines and all of the amazing young men who we've all followed and welcomed since the days they announced their commitments, I am going to return to my tailgate spot, celebrate what I hope will be a win against PSU and tune into the Arizona Wildcats as they battle the University of Spoiled Children. I will likely not have much of a voice because I am going to scream my ass off for the Wolverines, but I welcome anyone who is in the area to stop by and join us for what should be an excellent night-cap to a day of great football in A2.
I dont promise any food or beverages as they'll likely be exhausted between 11AM and kick-off, but you're free to come by, say hello, and enjoy the remaining hours of the evening.
- PLACE: BLUE LOT RV AREA (near Kipke Dr and Stadium Blvd) across from tunnel connecting Blue Lot to UofM Golf course lot
- SPOT: Directly next to Police building near train tracks that run along new indoor practice facility. Just look for the RV's and a big TV screen mounted to a Blue Trailer.
Enjoy your day... and GO BLUE!
P.S. Lots of talk about boycotts and player support. The players all walk by our tailgate, many with their parents, and often stop and chat. I can think of no better way to support them than shaking their hands and saying... GO BLUE!
Michigan will open the labs today
Gov. Rick Snyder, University of Michigan Mark Schlissel and other will speak at the grand opening Friday morning.
here is a tour:
"This facility will enable groundbreaking experiments by our faculty and students, resulting in landmark advances at the interface of mechanical engineering and nanoscience. We look forward to watching this progress unfold," said David Munson, the Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering.
I know it stinks that our football team isn't doing great right now -but the school (which is the important thing) is doing great!
Leaders and Best - Go Blue!
I thought that this little "story" on Mental Floss (one of the greatest websites there is, by the way) might be of some interest to at least a good portion of folks here. I'm not from Michigan, nor do I live there, but I find myself there often enough in the fall.
Anyway...enjoy this distraction from the playing field for a few seconds.
More specifically, Oakland County, Waterford/West Bloomfield/Bloomfield/Farmington Hills area.
With the State game going on at the same time as ours, and the fact that we suck and they're good, I fully expect the turnout at these bars to be like 90% State fans 10% us. I'd prefer to watch the game somewhere there's not an overwhelming number of those mouthbreathers, and that will have the sound turned on to our game.
So far I called the Buffalo Wild Wings on 14 and Orchard Lake and they don't know what they're doing. They theoretically can split the sound but not sure how that would work in reality. They also have a back room so maybe if some other Michigan fans show up they can just throw us all back there.
Anyways, if anyone knows any better options that'd be super.
"He wasn't a highly-sought commodity, and his salary at San Diego had been $700,000. Brandon's crackerjack negotiating skills got Hoke for a bargain-basement price of just shy of $3 million a year. Mary Sue Coleman, then the university president, pulled down a bit more than $600,000, as the highest-paid president in the university's history."
The author goes on to quote Jonathan Chait: "I would really like to see an economics textbook try to explain the negotiating dynamic here."
